Dam Funk

It’s hard to ignore the production genius that LA funkateer Dam-Funk is throwing down these days. The music he’s making is on some late ’70s Rick James meets early ’80s Prince meets the funkier side of mid ’90s Westside Connection, and yet, still futuristic at the same time. The good folks over at FADER put him on the cover this issue, but that’s not the reason for the post. We’ve known about him for awhile and his new album, Toeachizown, truly is worth the buzz it’s generating. If you’re curious why, check out his latest single, “The Sky is Ours.” It’s as uplifting of a funk track as you’ll ever hear and full of the bugged out Roger and Zapp style electric wankery that makes you want to lift your head to the sky and dance.
