Bay Area selector DJ Serg has a history of making quality mixes that encompass various parts of the reggae spectrum: culture, roots rock, dancehall, and especially lovers rock. It sort of makes me wish we had a solid reggae mixtape king here in Seattle and if anyone knows of somebody I’m overlooking, please let me know.
In the meantime, check out one of Serg’s mixes entitled Love and Affection. It’s been out for a few months now so apologies if anyone has come across it already. There are plenty of quality jams on here to rock out to on a Friday night–from Pressure’s “Love and Affection” (natch) to Jah Cure’s “Just You and Me.” My favorite might be the Black Chiney influenced version of Lil Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer.” There’s also some Tessanne Chin and Nina Sky here for those that are hip to how amazing their music is plus a touch of soca as well. It’s roughly an hour long and has solid vibes all the way through.
