In case you didn’t already know, today is World Aids Day. All around the globe, HIV/AIDS activists band together on Dec. 1st to raise awareness about the disease. If you need a wake up call, more than 33 million people are currently living with HIV/Aids around the world. And if you don’t already know your HIV status, make an appointment and get tested. It’s the least you can do considering that according to the CDC, 1 out of every 5 people who are infected with the virus doesn’t even know it.  Many people do know that HIV/AIDS has claimed the lives of it’s fair share of musicians as well, from Fela Kuti, Eazy E, and Tom Fogerty to Freddie Mercury, Hector Lavoe, Sylvester, and Liberace. I imagine even more have died from the disease or are currently infected, but they just don’t talk about it. Dec 1st is one of those days where the silence needs to stop.
