end-of-the-year lists are a great distraction (end-of-year distraction here; end-of-decade distraction here), but are mostly a crutch. i always feel bad for songs or albums released at the end of year that are too late for best of the year accolades, but are long forgotten by the next year’s best-of lists. and usually these lists are just so damn conventional. since i need a crutch right now, i’m going to post up some of my jams of the year, especially those that i was rocking before LxNxM was up and running. just a few to start, with more to follow, and y’all should tell me what your jams of the year are down in the comments. C’MON!

ray rich – know she cold (download) – some chill NOLA bounce

fool’s gold – nadine (memory tapes remix) (download) – great remix of an afro-pop/paul simon ape-ing LA band. and the breakdown at the 4:45ish mark is unreal.

zomby – helter skelter (download) – paranoid much?
