It’s the homies Das Racist, back at it again. And when we say “the homies” we’re actually saying that we’re friends with one dude, not all three dudes. And when we say “we” we don’t actually mean to be pulling a royally assholish royal We. That’s all.

Anyway, check the video. It dropped in December, so it’s not the freshest and cleanest. Luckily we’ve also got DR’s feature story they wrote for the Village Voice here as well. And THAT is fresh off the cyberpress. Can We state again how fun it is to have party music + smart dudes? Yeah, that’s cool.

Granted that the Shabazz Palaces show at Neumos in Seattle earlier this month went off like a supernova, we figured some of the neophytes might be hungry for some past works. Dj.Alex J, cooked up this mixtape to promote the digable planets tour that kicked off in Oct.09′. The tape includes exclusive rare remixes of classic Digable Planets material, and also includes (then) unreleased music from Butterfly and Doodlebug. There is  a smattering of other classic cuts mixed in, with Busta, Talib, MF DOOM, Pete Rock&CL, Chali 2na… which can’t hurt. Download Sounds from the 7th Dimensions. peace to okayplayer where I scooped this.

Is this music? No. But it’s about a musician and sure is funny. Laugh today. It’s healing.

I’m torn on the name of the new Ninjasonik mixtape: is it that bad, or are they so smart that they’re mocking everyone else? Seems like the self-referential irony approach is the most likely, but the number of layers of analysis and cultural onion-peeling that it would require make my head hurt on this Tuesday eve.

What I DO know is that the dudes from Ninjasonik are back on their grizzly like they never left. And in fact, they never really did leave. The high volume of remixes and features from these dudes is, at the very least, impressive and consistent. Their latest offering, the unclearly-titled Strictly for my hipstaz, has the dudes on full point yet again, with new and unreleased materials, a thick spread of remixes, and a smattering friends and fammo.

Everything else aside, here’s what I’ve got on these dudes: 1) they make music that kills in the club, and for that they deserve every accolade in the world, and 2) when last sighted round and abouts various LES bars, dudes were rocking the raccoon tail attached to the seat of the pants, a la Super Mario 3.

Real talk.

Shake my damn head.

Boo.

For many folks Buck 65 might be an acquired taste, which is cool because listening to Buck a.k.a. Rich Terfy,  is sometimes like talking to a whiskey-breathed oracle.  Still the gruffy voiced  hip hop troubadour has stayed prolific and continually forays into collaborations with outstanding artists in crazy different genres, not to mention holding down a dope radio show, Radio 2 Drive on CBC.

Enter the Dirtbike project, Buck calls it a woodshed demo – 3 albums worth of material in 3 months! and free for people? holla!  download the ‘Dirtbike’ project via e-mail.

Here is sample of the lo-fi goodness off of Dirtbike

It’s official! Canary Sing, the homies from around the way, just dropped their first video, a black-and-white partner to their jawn Freak Show. It’s good shit – Ispire and Lioness smash on some horn-heavy goodness, and the Georgetown (South End!) environs add a nice touch. Good on them for dropping the heat, and if you see them around, pick up their new mixtape: Boss Ladies. We approve.

Also: see if you can catch the cameo by LxNxM boss fella Wordlush. It’s in thurr.

up late? need something to listen to? try this:
