i’ve really been into the whole disco/modern soul/boogie sound as of late, and i’m glad that the wide world of the internet has been so eager to oblige my inclinations. i’m also glad that there’s been such a resurgence in this late 70s/early 80s sound (i wonder if there’s some correlation between economic periods–stagflation then, the Great Recession now) from djs and musicians and magazines and blogs. this post is mainly a means for me to give unto you, dear LxNxM readers, the varied and random jams and mixtapes that i’ve been rocking recently in this fair genre. first up is this absolute banger from london crew, bugz in the attic (crappy quality download here, or just buy it already, cheapskate):
way, way more after the jump
that track is on a mixtape put together by djs shred one and roza back in october, but still totally rock-able right now. get their mixtape, LOVESPACE, right here. you should also check out this old episode of spine blowing decisions, both because it is super and because i want you to tell me who is responsible for the first track. and if you didn’t know, spine blowing decisions is a monthly radio program put together for spine magazine by chairman mao, who also has a pretty dope blog. but seriously, tell me who made that first track in the comments if you know.
next up, this ridiculous track:
that is the first track (download) off a recently released compilation, the real sound of chicago: underground disco from the windy city, put together by mr. peabody. it’s hard to come by for free on the internet, so you should probably just buy and/or learn more about it here. and some enterprising young dj should totally just steal/sample that opening flourish already. oh, and thanks go to tang for putting me on to this comp.
finally, the fader comes through yet again by introducing me to berlin duo los massieras and their more up-to-date disco sounds. click here to learn more and grab los massieras’s track boogity boogity boogity (the song title makes me think of this), and go here to stream and download a nice and exclusive mix they did for the fader.
