I can’t think of a more appropriate post-Valentine’s day song. Good timing, Mr. Cole.

This video was filmed in Paris just last month during Jermaine and Drizzy Drake’s European tour. The track is off J’s most recent mixtape, Friday Night Lights.

The OFWGKTA crew are definitely one of the more unique stories in hip-hop right now. The oldest cat in the crew is just 19-years-old and that’s possibly what’s allowing them to tap into this strange creative energy where they’re making original music (weird as it might be) and capturing a sizeable audience in the process. Check out the latest video from one of the group members, Tyler the Creator, for his song “Yonkers.” There won’t be any shoutouts to DMX or the Lox but you will see a glimpse of why so many people are talking about these cats right now. They’re actually playing Jimmy Fallon on February 16.

it has been far too long since we at LxNxM put out a mixtape of our own. well, wait no more, we’ve got a great valentine’s day mixtape for y’all. lover’s mix is a bunch of great funk, boogie, and disco tracks that will put you (and your lover) in the mood. this one’s a group affair: i picked most of these tracks out, tang mixed them all together, and toast was the master engineer. shout outs to amber and wordlush on the sexy drops. listen and download lover’s mix below; you’ll find the tracklist after the jump.

It appears we’ve forgotten something. Tecla, she of the future-retro chanteuse sound, Gordon Voidwell collaborating, and Das Racist tour partnering, put out an album a little while back entitled Strangers In Masks. It was a good ass album. I listened to it and dug it. And I could have sworn this respectable publication had written some kind words to that extent. We did not. We are dummies.

Luckily, we get a second chance – Tecla just dropped an all-remix version release: Strangers Revisited, with refixes from LxNxM favorites Old Money Massive, Dash Speaks, and Kassa Overall, among others. Clocking in at 15 tracks, and skittering stylewise between future club, future hop, and future bass. Lots o’ futures, apparently.

Good shit, get it! And just for good measure, you can grab Strangers In Masks below the jump. BECAUSE WE DO IT FOR THE KIDS IS WHY.

Let’s make one thing clear: Erykah Badu is a Goddess and her music speaks to my soul.

This track was taken from Erykah’s New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, which you should buy/download/steal immediately if you haven’t already obtained your own copy. The video was directed by Flying Lotus – that’s why it looks so cool.

With so many inspiring revolutions of various sizes happening over North Africa and the Middle East right now, all of us music lovers shouldn’t be afraid to breathe a collective “Amen” that people are in the streets demanding change on the other side of the world. Lot’s of us get caught up in music bloggity blogs like it’s real life. It’s not. It’s online mental therapy — which is well-needed at times — but the folks in Egypt and Tunisia and Jordan and Yemen and Syria are dealing with real shit that most music blogs can’t touch. Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try though.

Here’s a new mix that I stumbled upon yesterday from an important blog based out of another North African country that is mysteriously being left out of the global conversation about uprising and regime change in that region: Libya. The blog is called Enough and they essentially want Muammar al-Gaddafi’s 40+ year reign of ignorance over that country to end. You think Mubarak and his 29 years was bad? Shiiiiit. Gaddafi’s been in power for 41 years and counting. And he ain’t budging. Or so he thinks.

Check out a powerful new comp that just dropped called the Khalas Mixtape Vol 1. compiling songs from emcees based in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria that call for regime change now in every single one of those countries! It’s all in Arabic. But support it anyway and pass it along to your friends via the interwebs. These artists have something to say that a language barrier does.not.stop. Listen, and you’ll understand. That’s real.

Download the Khalas Mixtape Vol 1. here. I highly recommend doubling back and hitting Enough’s site for informed writing (in English) about what’s happening in that region right now.

In my personal opinion, Panamanian-born yet Bay Area-raised reggaetoneros Los Rakas aren’t the most street individuals you’ll ever encounter. Still, they’ve got a brand new video out this week for their song “Kalle” that deals directly with the street life as if they’re experts. Then again, most rappers do the exact same thing and rarely get called out for it! If you’re not hip to Los Rakas yet, the duo is young, they enjoy repping their respective hoods as best as they can, and are known for making catchy jams and even catchier music videos.

We first told you about them last year back when Toast made sure readers caught wind of their sound and overall bilingual steez. He stayed on top of the crew a few times and they’ve since started touring all over the country bringing a slightly updated version of reggaeton to any audience that will listen. Check out their latest video below and for anyone that’s headed to SXSW this year (it’s almost that time folks), Los Rakas will be there as well.

On a cold Monday evening not too long ago, a wise man bought me a whiskey and told me what good music I was missing from my life. At the top of his list was British DJ/producer SeePM. Who? I asked, making sure I had the spelling right. Just look him up, was all he replied.

Okay, fine, be that way. After all, in 2011, all our memories already live online, so why even bother with an explanation if the answers are just a few clicks away. And so I did. And I was happily surprised.

SeePM, having split his (presumably well-spent) youth between Bath and London, now represents greater South West of the UK (and that’s the best pic I can find of him there on the left. Yeah, I KNOW). The dude’s production style is, dare I say it, mature.

DreamTime by SeePM

His songs feel complete, even when skirting into tricky territory, as with his remix of Lil’ Jon’s “Give it all you got,” a rearrangement that turns the crunk feeling into a haunting stomp. SeePM’s original productions are long on atmosphere and subtle complexity – most of the tracks could double as headphones marinators (sic), or the the soundtrack for your new favorite film.

Lil Jon Feat Kee – Give It All U Got – SeePMs Inappropriate Remix by SeePM

Dude is doing his thing out there in the world, both by himself and as Bohko, along with co-producer Joseph, and his star is rising. Listen now, so you can be the one telling your friends what they should be listening to.

This is a little something to give your earballs some love. West Coast beatsman WD4D just released a new mix through the good folks over at Plasmodium. It’s classic Dub D, stitching together a 38-strong laundry list of quality tracks, and blending each of them into something new on the transitions. Hell, look no further than the opening mix, from Seattle blunt hop maestro OCnotes into Shlomo’s reworking of “Pretty Boy Swag.” Yes, it works. And yes, you will enjoy it.
