This video contains footage from the upcoming documentary by Village Beat titled Tough Bond — a film about kids sniffing glue to survive street life in Kenya’s disappearing villages and exploding urban slums.

Original documentary score was provided by Shabazz Palaces.

Learn more about the film and cause on the Village Beat Non-Profit Company page on Facebook

Shabazz Palaces is making the best music to come out of Seattle since Jimi. Do not sleep on the Black Up album when it drops on June 28th.

Here’s a new video from my guy Rahsaan, also known to many as, A Fly Guy, who reps New York, Miami, and Guyana all at once. He’s got some of the most original style I’ve seen in the Miami hip-hop community and in addition to being a DJ, sneaker store owner, and the baby brother of the former editor in chief of The Source, Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, he’s also a good rapper. And apparently a freak. But let the song explain that. This is his remix of J. Cole’s “In The Morning” and the low key visuals and bedroom lyrics match each other well.

dâm-funk made an awesome mixtape (tracklist after the jump) for clothing company oki-ni and i try to always post awesome mixtapes made by dâm-funk, so here we are. take it away, dâm: “All songs were taken from the original wax pressings. This mix is what I simply listen 2 on any given day, while living life. It’s a pleasure to share these tracks with my new oki-ni friends. I own all of these records. No mp3s or computer files were used for this mix. No fake shit or fads; just the truth.”

blog-friend vinylrichie has really cornered the market on the modern soul and funk mixtape scene. i frequently go back to his head over heels and take a chance mixtapes (VR knows this as i’ve been bothering him for several weeks trying to get tracklists for them), and his slower tempo mix from earlier this year is pretty great as well. he recently released a new mixtape, let’s go all the way, that reaffirms the dude’s ear for great modern soul sounds and skills at mixing them all together. stream and download below:

watch little dragon play a great semi-new/unreleased song, “little man,” for yours truly about the “kinda comical” false consciousness of a middle class existence and having it all. it’s cool though, they’re swedish so they know what’s up. plus, when you have that voice, you can sing about anything and it’ll sound great. you can grab the mp3 by heading over to YT’s facebook and “liking” the song.

Ricky Ross is never known to be shy when it comes to bragging but this shit takes it to new levels. I think Drake’s verse is stronger than Ross’ but I’ve never been good at bragging so don’t consider me an authority on the subject. Drake’s deadpan line about sleeping with Rihanna is probably what ices it. Apparently this is off an upcoming Ross album called God Forgives, I Don’t which is advice I should probably stand by more often. It’s been one of those kind of days.

Here’s a new video from South Florida rapper Omniscient that’s all about encouraging people to help their fellowman. Of course he can’t do that alone so he’s got Latin Grammy winners Locos Por Juana helping on the track along with Venezuela’s OneChot and Yeyo from The D.E.Y. It’s not meant to be a Latin hip-hop super group, but it could easily become one if they keep gelling together like this.

if, like me, you’ve been listening to the weeknd mixtape a lot recently, you probably wouldn’t mind a mixtape compiling similarly sounding/variously called noir&b, PBR&B, or what i like to call makeout music. fortunately, electronic artist RxRy has come through for you, with a mixtape he made for the blog stadiums and shrines. as the man states, “i dubbed this hot and hard, and gave it some of my own space and vacuum…sounds choice MAXED on your laptop speakers (on purpose).” the mix features the aforementioned the weeknd as well as LxNxM favorites mount kimbie, flying lotus, delorean, and burial, and really does sound great on shitty laptop speakers (under headphones as well). stream it below, download it here, and find the tracklist after the jump (or just follow along the soundcloud).

It’s about time that I hit y’all with a proper dancehall – in this case, bashment – mix.  So, since I’m on this British radio kick as of late, I figure why not go straight to the toppa top source of quality bashment in the UK, Gabriel Heatwave.

Expect to hear some new riddims, exclusive material and a few soon-to-be Spring/Summer anthems.  We also get a little sneak preview of the upcoming Energy Bashment Mix, which should be out any day now is out now (download via thehypelifemag).
