unlike cee-lo green, erykah badu is still erykah badu. i’m not sure what this is for, but really, who cares.
apparently i missed when this first single from joker’s upcoming full length made its way onto the internet a couple weeks ago. well, now you can officially buy it and/or watch a “live” version from london’s famous boiler room. it definitely sounds like a joker track, but also like something that will be huge on the radio in, like, 5 years. or, at the very least, on the next luvstep mixtape.
You’ve come a long way from the days of Goodie Mob, Cee-Lo. Not mad. Just sayin.
Here’s some new music from Toronto’s The Weeknd. “Rolling Stone” has that signature drug-induced, minimalist sound that put The Weeknd on the map, but the beat stands apart from most of his other jawns as it relies almost solely on a single accoustic guitar loop. Spoiler Alert: Not unlike most all of his music, this song is about drugs, sex and more drugs.
If you haven’t already downloaded the House Of Balloons album and listened to it a thousand times on repeat, you should probably do that now.
Download “Rolling Stone” here.
Update: Hella previously unreleased The Weeknd tracks right here:

I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for Leimert Park from the brief time I use to live in Los Angeles and remember it to be the home of some fairly fresh music talents. Ella Fitzgerald, Eric Dolphy, Aceyalone, and Ray Charles have all called it home and Dom Kennedy shouts it out in his raps too. Now there’s another music talent by the name of Co$$ bigging it up in this brand new video for the song “Spaceman.” Between the visuals and the rapid fire (yet still on point lyrics), Co$$ quickly proves himself to be somebody worth paying attention to when his Before I Awoke album drops in June on Tres Records. This is the type of West Coast rapping that’s hard not to love.

i’ve been digging this FACT mag mix that ford & lopatin (fka GAMES) made. it’s on that disco-y, house-y, uptempo-y tip that closes with an extended version of carly simon’s stunner “why”. great at-work music. listen below, and find the tracklist after the jump.
I really wanted to not like this video. Actually, that’s probably an understatement but the music won me over by the end. Between the silly lyrics, ovary swag, and crunk beat, I couldn’t deny it fit right in with the LxNxM steez. It’s weird, crass, and comical, but considering that she’s homies with Odd Future, Das Racist, Lil B and Diplo, that isn’t surprising in the least. Enjoy a laugh if nothing else. This young lady is not to be taken serious no matter how much internet fame she inevitably receives once this goes viral.
It’s good to see an artist with burgeoning pop appeal still willing to say something real. The artist of mention is Yonas and while we haven’t talked about him much on this blog before, his music and marketing push have both won me over during the past few months so here goes. Considering that he was born to parents from Uganda and Ethiopia, Yonas was probably destined to make a-typical hip-hop from the start. He’s a New York cat and has a touch of that emo steez in his music but it really comes from a deep sense of needing to be heard above all of the blazay blah shit that makes hip-hop monotonous these days.
He’s dropped some projects before, The New Golden Era from 08 and last year’s I Am US EP that helped put him on people’s radars. Check out some of these more stellar jams of his like “Radio Flow” and “Nobody Else” if you wish to here more after peeping the video above. Cop the entire new album as well while you’re at it.

as far as mega-famous pop stars go, you have to give drake some credit. beyond starring in degrassi, the dude has collaborated with various under the radar stars including jamie xx, the weeknd, and now, SBTRKT. if you haven’t already listened/downloaded “wildfire,” the lead single from SBTRKT’s upcoming record, and featuring the vocal wonders of little dragon’s yukimi nagano (get it here), maybe this “remix” will do the trick. it’s the exact same track, but now features a verse from drake. listen and download.
