It’s late, and it’s been a good, busy, long day. If only there were some new well-vibed music to throw on… Aha, we’re in luck – fresh from Manchester’s own Mecca:83 comes “Midnight Kids”, a slow burning nibble of late night sounds. Pretty gorgeous stuff, and hits the spot.
Another great mixtape from another great mixtape series. From the good folks at Society HAE comes the Afrika21 series, which is very intentionally oriented towards “creating a platform to introduce Africa’s emerging creative thinkers in the fields of music and arts & culture.”
The third and latest mix of the bunch is ridonculously hot – which it should be, considering it’s curated by the one and only Spoek Mathambo. The mix draws from artists all across Africa, from South Africa’s BLK JKS to the unstoppable club kuduro of Angola’s Cabo Snoop.
Enjoy!

Los Angeles duo J*DaVeY’s latest project, New Designer Drug, is the best album of the last half of 2011. I’ll make that statement and stand behind it without question. Everything about the record oozes a certain level of nu-wave creativity, black electronic power rock, future soul and all around passion that it’s hard to not get into the album. They released on their own label last week — this is after they walked away from an ill-fitting relationship at Warner Bros. Records — and are allowing the general public to the stream New Designer Drug for free or purchase it for $2.99. Charging three dollars for an amazing album nearly guarantees that a quarter of the people who hear it will purchase it. That’s smart. And the music is worth a heck of a lot more. Peep the album single below and then hit the group’s website if you want to support the project.

If you’re still not convinced, stream the whole album and you should be convinced.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: NYC’s Old Money Massive is pushing “the musics” in a new and good direction. We’ve been writing about them for a hot minute, and from the sounds of things, we’re going to start seeing a flood of new material. That’s a good thing for you and for dancefloors around the world.
To give you a taste of what’s to come, Old Money got together with Lower East Side boutique/culture mover Vane for the latest installment of the Vanity Jukebox. The end result is a half-hour long trip, including the music that’s motivating Old Money – DJ Tira, Nina Simone, GelĂș-Six, etc – and some unreleased treats of their own creation.
Get yourself a listen, and keep your eyes and ears peeled for more to come.
