That’s right Seattle peoples – you’ve heard the rumors, and they are 1000% accurate: for one very special night, Last Night’s Mixtape is taking Soundsystem to Barboza, the best dance spot on Capitol Hill.
As usual, we’ll be playing all those hot heater hits you get fresh and warm from this blog, plus some secret heat that we keep to ourselves for nights like tonight. BAM.
Free before 11, and $5 after – we’ll see you there!
It’s been a short lil minute since I wrote about this guy, but one of the more intriguing producers I’ve heard coming out of the DMV in a while is the young cat skyyHiRY. Dude takes some of the more abstract sides of the #based #rare cloud sound and puts some good snap into the mix.
The new EP, Champain, is mainly skyyHiRY running the track solo, but also includes clutch cameos, including a few by past collaborator Bucky Malone. Sample a couple tracks below, and head to the official Soundcloud to hear the rest.
Ya’ll are beautiful. Thanks for taking us into the second calendar year of Soundsystem in style and substance. PLUS, put June 30th on your calendars – the LxNxM crew is taking over Barboza for a night of bassy good sounds. Blammo!
Tomorrow night, Moe Bar belongs to LNM! Well, not really, but we’ll be playing the music at least. Come through with your posse and get down with us. Toast and I will treat your earholes right. 10pm to close, 21+, no cover. Dance the night away. Boom.
TNGHT, comprised of LNM favorites Lunice and Hudson Mowhawke, drops their self-titled EP June 23/24 on Warp and LuckyMe. I’ve been looking forward to this collabo project since reading about their debut at SXSW a few months ago. The preview sounds like the wait is going to be well worth it.
I hope that these dudes’ tunes don’t get lost in all the “trap” hype that’s been brewing on the internet. That would be a shame. These guys have definitely been on some next level shit for a minute now, and that should be recognized.
i’m a noted LV fan, so it’s no surprise that i’m posting their new video for “sebenze” (which means “work” in zulu), a track featuring previous collaborator okmalumkoolkat (this remix of that track is well-worth checking out as well). there are many things to like about this video: that beat, those jackets and hats and shades, johannesburg, that dude’s grill, the crazy donuts at the end, the FUCKTHERICH vanity plate.
i’m also psyched to hear that LV has an ep out in july, and an album coming in august that will also feature spoek mathambo.
“Big Beast” is the lead single from Killer Mike’s latest, much-lauded effort, R.A.P. Music. The song is hard, but the video might go a little harder. I’m not usually a fan of gratuitous violence, but I enjoyed the B horror movie feel to this one. Naked stripper zombies and all.
This is by far the best Danny Brown video of his career. Nevermind the fact that he’s barely in the video. The song is great and it’s becoming clearer than ever that Danny is a rap genius. The person that gets the most kudos for this video is the young kid portraying Danny, and of course, Greg Brunkalla who directed the video and came up with the concept. This one is a must watch. Precious all the way through.
fantastic mr fox is one of those artists i have a hard time describing to people: producer/dj out of (where else) england who makes some variation of electronic music. i did just read, however, that he himself describes his work as “reluctant dance music,” which is apt, especially to describe FMF’s new ep san’en. i’ve been listening to “pascal’s chorus” several times a day since it dropped last week. another standout–“speak nuh”–only confirms the subdued grooves FMF lays down.
stream “pascal’s chorus” below, and check out a recent XLR8R mix FMF made that sprinkles a few cuts off san’en throughout.
