Shoutouts to a humble MC! That’s more hard to find than it should be these days and that alone makes it easy to post this video. New York’s Homeboy Sandman is finding his time in the limelight these days and currently on tour with Brother Ali. He’s got an album out on Stones Throw Records, First of a Living Breed, that is getting plenty of buzz and recognition for how nice Sandman is with his lyrics and how genuine he comes across. It took him awhile but he seems to have found his lane. The best is that in this video, for his song, “Not Really” featuring production by Jonwayne, you can tell all of it’s not phasing him one bit.

French-Chilean singer/MC Ana Tijoux is one of the most pleasant musical findings that I’ve personally discovered this year. She’s got a sound that is warm, fresh, hip, sexy, hyper-intelligent and real which is rare in much of today’s music. Having watched her perform live at Bumbershoot earlier this month, she was easily the most exciting artist at the entire festival. For American audiences, it’s a lesser known fact she’s also become the artistic face to the student protests in Chile and has entire songs dedicated to that movement on her most recent album, La Bala (The Bullet).

You can read more about her and her latest album here after you enjoy her most recent video release for the song, “Volver,” which was shot by legendary photographer B + in Medellin, Colombia.

zodiac is the name through which jeremy rose releases music. his new ep, aptly titled zodiac, just came out (yesterday, in fact) on jacques greene’s increasingly consistent VASE label, and it is really good. you should buy it. you should also read this VICE magazine interview with jeremy rose in which he discusses how he made many of the tracks that first brought the weeknd great fame and attention, only to be cut out of the fame and attention by the weeknd. if, like me, you think house of balloons is by far the best weeknd release, you probably have jeremy rose to thank. do him a solid by picking up zodiac here. stream the ep’s preview below.

after months of hype and anticipation, decibel festival 2012 is finally here. in my estimation, decibel is the best music fest seattle’s got going, and this year’s fest promises to be chock full of opportunities to hear established vets and up-and-comers in scenes that all touch on electronic music. after the jump, check out our recommendations for how to fill your evenings, beginning this wednesday, 9/26 when decibel kicks off. late pass, but i finally got around to watching/listening to alunageorge’s new video/track “your drums, your love.” and yeah, those drums. one thought from the video is that these two, and specifically leggy, gorgeous aluna, are gonna blow up. which makes me feel bad for george cause he is just some pasty looking white dude and have you seen aluna? great producer though. between this, and their previous ep, it’s pretty apparent. the single drops on 10/15, and features remixes from deebs and lil silva.

First things first: if you weren’t at Soundsystem last night, I feel really, really bad for you. The vibes were unreal, and DJ Panamami was in official house wrecking mode. Three things that prove last night was amazing:

1) The live percussion section grew from one person to three to five over the course of the night.

2) First they pushed last call back ten minutes. Then they pushed it back ten minutes more. And then again.

3) When the lights eventually went on, the crowd kept right on dancing.

Big shout out to the one and only Panamami for bringing quality all night long, to Gnotes for holding it down on percussion, and to the many heroes on the dance floor – you know who you are. Extra special love to the one and only Carolina, who’s making the move back to Mexico City this weekend – we’ll miss you, lady. Check a few pics below, and we’ll see you next month. CHAMPION SOUND.

i have been digging this ep from australian beatmaker ta-ku. definitely on that trap/TNGHT/r&bish tip with some very solid remixes thrown in to boot. stream the ep preview and one of the choicer remixes below, and head to his bandcamp for the rest and to $$.

Brand spanking new track from the ever-present NYC/SEA continuum. This time it’s the homie Himanshu of Das Racist, and #based beatsman Keyboard Kid. It’s off Heems’ upcoming Wild Water Kingdom project, and it comes highly recommended.
