New year, new sounds – on Thursday, Soundsystem’s bringing the temperature up a few degrees at Moe Bar. We’ll be kicking off 2013 with a set from none other than Sabzi, of Blue Scholars/Townfolk/Phở fame. As always, it’s family – see you there!

VP Records has been putting out their double volume compilation, Strictly The Best, since 1990. That’s a long time for a compilation series. I’ve been a fan of the series as far back as I can remember listening to reggae, but this is the first time I’ve seen VP promote it with accompanying mixes. No complaints here. Volume 46 is all lover’s rock and roots and 47 is dancehall. Walshy Fire must be a very busy man.
I know, I know. We’ve been absent bloggers. Sorry about that. Do you miss us? Don’t worry. Last Night’s Mixtape is still alive and well. We’ve just been on a little vacation. We’ll be back in full swing with the blog posts shortly. Promise. For now,we invite those of you in Seattle to our monthly party, Soundsystem, this Thursday night at Moe Bar.
Yes, it’s going to be colder than a polar bear’s toenail this Thursday. But that’s no excuse, party people. It’s the holidays, the last night before winter officially hits, and possibly the last night before the end of the world. Either way, might as well go out with all your friends and dance your asses off to some dope music, right? Exactly. So, if you like good music with lots of bass in it, come celebrate with us. Whether you’re celebrating the holidays, solstice, end of the world, or you just want to party. We got you.

Come out to Moe Bar this Thursday and join your LNM family for another installment of Soundsystem, the best and possibly only dancehall/hip hop/cumbia/global bass night in Seattle.
This month, we’re featuring Seattle’s one and only Gnotes (Gnawledge Records/SEA/BOS/LA) as our guest DJ. Gnotes is a bona fide renaissance man. Not only does he produce and DJ across genres, but he also raps, plays Flamenco guitar and even played college football. He’s also a cofounder of Los Angeles’ Subsuelo, a monthly global bass party that was recently dubbed “Best Eastside club night” by the LA Weekly.
That’s right, music lovers, Seattle’s best global bass night meets LA’s best global bass night. It’s gonna be a party!
Greedhead and GoatFace Comedy have come together to bring us this very entertaining video for “Girl,” one of the more melodious tunes off of last year’s Relax. Fans of all things Das Racist should be on the lookout for Heems’ newest mixtape, Wild Water Kingdom, out later this week (hopefully).
Dengue Dengue Dengue! is the audiovisual brainchild of Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira, a couple of guys from one of my favorite cities in the world: Lima, Peru. Although the duo is based out of the sprawling metropolis that is Lima, they look to the jungles of the Amazon for a lot of the melodies in their music and motifs in their visuals. By drawing inspiration from the cumbia psicodélica movement of the 60s and 70s (see Los Mirlos, Ranil y su conjunto and Juaneco y su combo) and integrating heavy dubby/dancehall-ish basslines and contemporary electronic sounds, DDD has managed to tastefully flip one uniquely Peruvian sound to make another uniquely Peruvian sound. As a Peruvian and a music lover, I approve.
If you like “Simiolo” and you want to hear more DDD, head over to their soundcloud and/or buy their new album, La Alianza Profana.
Join us for another installment of Soundsystem and keep the vibes flowing this month as we proudly present our next special guest DJ: CHAACH!!! (NYC-PDX). CHAACH!!! is the co-founder of the NYC-based music label and Baile Funk promotion team XAO PRODUCTIONS. He has worked and performed alongside such artists as Diplo (Major Lazer), Uproot Andy, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Zuzuka Poderosa, 77Klash, Max Glazer and more. This dude has been an active proponent of the global bass scene, rocking parties from coast to coast for years now. He’s just our kind of DJ!
As we were saying goodbye to summer last year, we were bumpin DJ Panamami‘s Ciao Verano mixtape on repeat. It was one of my personal favorite mixes of 2011, and it’s still a perfect selection to send summer off to. I recommend you revisit it and get ready, because this year we are fortunate enough to get the real deal. Join your LNM family as we send off summer 2012 at Soundsystem with special guest DJ Panamami. It’s going to be a guaranteed jam.
Listen to Panamami’s latest mix, Sweat ‘N Sour, and peep the video clip below to get a little more familiar with our special guest before next Thursday.
