I’m a sucker for Christmas reggae tunes. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine that comes to light every holiday season. I’m glad to see that our favorite Swedish soundsystem, Safari Sound, has no shame in the Christmas reggae game too.  Merry Christmas, y’all!

Here’s the video for the title track from Schlachthofbronx’s most recent EP.  The song definitely outshines the visuals, but it’s all love.  As far as I’m concerned, these guys are the coolest Germans in the game right now.  Das cool.

I just got back from a two week long European vacation yesterday, and the jet lag is real.  After pulling an all-nighter, I left Amsterdam at 11AM, flew for ten hours in a giant metal tube, and arrived in Seattle at noon (the same day).  How’s that for a mindfuck?

After unpacking, starting a load of laundry, and getting a steaming bowl of duck noodle soup from my favorite noodle shop, I fired up the Macbook and started clicking through my favorites to catch up on some blog action.  I didn’t make it too far, as I started to pass out about five minutes into it, but I did find this incredibly appropriately titled mix featured on Largeup.com’s Mixtape Mondays from last week.

Montreal’s finest, Ghislain Poirier, comes through with some serious heaters on this mix(tape), which features LxNxM favorites Bonjay, Emvee, Boogat, Spoek Mathambo, Dubbel Dutch, and mucho mas.  I’m not sure how this worked out or what the connection is, but  the mix was made for Aritizia, a boutique specializing in women’s clothing.  Check em out, I guess.

I’d write more about how awesome this mix is, but my brain is still a little melty from traveling through space and time. I think I’m just gonna let this one play on repeat until I start feeling normal again.

Shoutouts to DJ Smutlee for putting out a dancehall mixtape that’s actually worthy of blogging. It’s a been a minute.

The London club DJ, mixtape maker, & blend specialist does what he does best on this 61-minute mix, which features a bunch of new jams, a couple tried a true classics and smattering of original mashups.  Smutlee has made quite a name for himself in the moombahton scene lately, but it’s good to see that he’s still as keen on the dancehall as ever. Hope y’all enjoy this one as much as I do. It’s on steady bump.  Hit the jump for the massive tracklist.

Artists For Artists is a budding nonprofit dedicated to giving current and up-and-coming artists opportunities to showcase their work, through hosting events that they contribute to and in the future developing programs that they can attain paid residencies at, and creating opportunities to foster and develop future artists (currently through contributions to established youth art programs, and in the future by developing their own).

The Kickoff will showcase seven visual artists, photography from the kids of Youth In Focus (one of the organizations benefiting from AFA’s fundraising efforts), trailers from eight local film projects, and music late into the night from myself and Seattle beatsmith and bona fide party rocker OCnotes.  It’s gonna be a party!

The Kick-Off is this Saturday, 10/15 from 8pm-2am at Sodo Pop.  There is a $25 minimum donation at the door.  But don’t worry, because the open bar (which means you don’t pay for liquor once you’re in the door) will more than make up for it.  Find more information and RSVP here.

All proceeds from this event will go to Youth in Focus and Arts Corps. Two organizations that are dedicated to bringing art to the kids that need and want it most.

“(We Stay) Up All Night” is the first single off Buraka Som Sistema‘s upcoming sophmore album, Komba, which drops November 8th in the US, and it’s a massive party track if I’ve ever heard one. The video is muito sexy too. If you’re offended by ass and titties, you might wanna skip the video and go straight for the stream over at p4k.

Munich’s masters of bass have just released a four-track EP that combines the relatively obscure sounds of North Brazilian Carimbo and Nola Bounce with the more universal dancehall, calypso, cumbia and house rhythms that put Schlachthofbronx on the map. I realize that listing all those genres out like that makes it look like this project is gonna sound like a hot mess, but nothing could be further from the truth.  Every track kills. Listen to the preview below and check for yourself.

Bonus:  Hit the jump to watch the video for “Coolie Fruit,” a fresh, upbeat party track about hitting up the corner store with your crew for some juice, sweat tea and soup, featuring Sweden’s Gnucci Banana.
