hey friends.

the last soundsystem of the year (and we all know 2012 is the last year, per mayan rules, so there won’t even be that many soundsystems left in general) is happening THIS THURSDAY, december 15, at the usual time (starting at 10-ish), at the usual place (MOE BAR), with the usual guys (our very own djs tang and toast), playing the usual awesome music that you’re used to hearing from last night’s mixtape.

so please, come on down, bear the cold, drink some drinks, dance your ass off, and kick off the holidays right. no christmas music though.

Here is the full length official video/short film for the Weeknd’s “The Knowing”, directed by Mikael Colombu, the mind behind dark and twisty videos like Cee-Lo’s “Bodies” and Bilal’s “Robots“. The journey to and cataclysm of planet “Ethio X” in the year 16311 is a cascade of imagery evoking Stargate, Ethiopian Poli sci/Cultural studies and the grotesquely beautiful art of H.R. Geiger, all in all giving me a rare case of the slightly aroused willies.  With so much provocative content to analyze – I leave further interpretation to the viewer.

As a bonus, here is a track Mr. Abel Tesfaye released last month called “Initiation”, featuring his signature R&B-for-vampires vocal stylings screwed, auto-tuned and everything in between. Peacepeace.

your favorite thursday night jump off is THIS WEEK. a bit of a change this month as we’re subbing out the distinctive dancehall/bass stylings of LxNxM’s own tang (dude is visiting fam and generally causing a ruckus in spain – follow along here) with the glitchy, romanticrunk stylings of one of seattle’s finest djs, WD4D (you know dude has a blog too, right?). toast will be there too, doing his usual handsome, floor-wrecking thing. same bat time, same bat channel (i.e. MOE BAR, 10pm, FREE), so come out and dance your ass off – the holidays are about to start, and what better way to stave off weight gain than putting your booty in the air.

Following Tang’s lead, here is a sweet little downloadable ditty from that guy Theophilus London. I really dig this RAC (remix artist collective) version over the album version – the bright, poppy keys, and the airy vocals of Sara Q (of Tegan and Sara fame) make this jam remind me of some of that early Paula Abdul – you know like those video-duets with the totally slept on MC Skat Kat.

Enjoy!

hey seattle! i don’t know if you have plans on friday night (that’s THIS friday – friday the 13th even), but what you should be doing is coming out to the inaugural night of SOUNDSYSTEM, an evening of fun times and bomb music put on by we here at Last Night’s Mixtape.

it’s fixin’ to be a grand old time: for starters, it’s FREE. also, we’ll have DJs (and bloggers!) Tang and Toast on the decks playing pretty much everything you love to find here on LxNxM, and everything we never get around to posting.

so, come out on FRIDAY, MAY 13th to MOE BAR starting at 9pm, for SOUNDSYSTEM, the first of what we hope becomes a regular night of crazy awesomeness. bring your friends, shake your ass, and we’ll see you there.

It’s almost Friday night and anybody going out this evening (or any evening) probably wants to have a good warmup mix on hand to get them in the mood. If you’re like me and would rather let someone take care of your music selections are you’re in the process of getting nice before you step out, peep this new mix from the homie DJ Eleven and his partner, DJ Ayres. We’ve posted their gems before here on the blog and this new slow-roaster, Heavy Warmup Vol. 2 definitely gets the LxNxM approval.

You’ll hear some straight ahead ’90s jams, smashups, and cuts that might make you start doing the wop and two stepping in the mirror as you get ready to night. Nobody is suggesting that you don’t already have songs by Soul For Real, The Dream, Ashanti, D’Angelo, and Big Pun at your fingertips — but if you need someone to blend them for you effortlessly, enjoy what’s below.
