It’s almost Friday night and anybody going out this evening (or any evening) probably wants to have a good warmup mix on hand to get them in the mood. If you’re like me and would rather let someone take care of your music selections are you’re in the process of getting nice before you step out, peep this new mix from the homie DJ Eleven and his partner, DJ Ayres. We’ve posted their gems before here on the blog and this new slow-roaster, Heavy Warmup Vol. 2 definitely gets the LxNxM approval.

You’ll hear some straight ahead ’90s jams, smashups, and cuts that might make you start doing the wop and two stepping in the mirror as you get ready to night. Nobody is suggesting that you don’t already have songs by Soul For Real, The Dream, Ashanti, D’Angelo, and Big Pun at your fingertips — but if you need someone to blend them for you effortlessly, enjoy what’s below.

While our spoiled LxNxM brothers are dropping tequila shots, and dropping pounds traversing under the hot- ass sun of downtown Austin at SXSW, it’s only right that me and the Krieganator – without the slightest shred of jealousy – soldier on to bring you that new new.

Enter the Dropping Gems crew “a collective of musicians based in the Pacific Northwest. Our goal is to share a particular vision of the future of humanity as it’s expressed in the form of electronic music. So we produce and release albums, and create events for people to come hear us and those that we love and respect”. This combination of ambitious vision and love shines through the amphibious, conscious-percolating sound layers of Gem Drops.  Representing the crews first digital compilation, and featuring a mindful selection of other U.S. based electronic innovators – all of the proceeds of Gem Drops are entirely committed to raising funds for the American Cancer Society. Listening through, I haven’t been this pumped about an electronic compilation since the first Beat Dimensions in ’07.

Don’t be a cheapskate when you name your price for this album. Whet your appetite for future-hop and support a good cause. For $15 you can get the handmade CD with artwork.  Don’t sleep on these big beats made by big hearts.

The Medulla Transmissions is the soundtrack for your long overdue inner-space road trip.  Your navigator is Renaissance man Jahon Mikal; a classically trained pianist, dancer, singer, producer, and reader of auras.

Throughout the decidedly future-funk, electro orchestra of Transmissions – Jahon Mikal’s other artistic confluences can be heard – from the fundamental hip hop mastery of his big bro/hip hop vet Vitamin D to his current work with the up-and-coming Seattle based Hip-Doo-Woppers The Heartfelts. The album also features vocal support from emcee/dance artist Maxie Jamal.

The complex beats and lyrical harmonies are so polished but maintain an organic vibe that is autonomic like the functions of the medulla, kinda like the art behind the simple act of breathing. Fresh.

Please show love and offer what you can, for this this pay- what-you can download album.

Some of you may be up on this mix already, but for the rest of you I feel obligated to put you on to this here hot ish.

By the tasteful selection and mature vibe of the mix, its hard to believe that Greene is just 21 yrs old. The mix has all of the nostalgic warmth and soulful sonic foundation of the house and garage you fell in love with- but weaves in the creative blippage and vocal experimentation of the new school.

Overall it feels like a smooth but high energy contrast to the epic and raunchy booty tech sound that seems to be carrying the banner for house at the moment. Look out for Greene’s upcoming album “The Look” in just a few days on Jan 5th, released on NYC label LuckyMe also home to  LxNxM faves Lunice & Hudson Mohawke. Download the mix, check out the teaser for “The Look” the below, tracklist for mix after the jump.

Our very own Wordlush recently contributed a dancehall top ten list for LargeUp, one of my favorite (should be your favorite too) Caribbean culture and music blogs out there.  It’s a great list, and I suggest that you check it out.  I even got my two cents in there, as the homie consulted with me on some of his choices.  But, don’t get it twisted, this list is all Wordlush’s doing.  And, in fact, he’s been trying to get me to post my own top ten dancehall/reggae list here on LxNxM for several days now.  So, I know that this is a few days into to 2011 already, but after much deliberation, here’s my top ten for 2010 (in no particular order). For a truly exhaustive run-down of dancehall music and culture in 2010, you should go over to Kiss my Teeth/Imagelala.  Our homegirl Erin Hansen absolutely killed the year-end round up.

Vybz Kartel ft. Russian – “Straight Jeans and Fitted”

Any song that makes t-shirts and jeans sound fashionable is a good one in my book.  It also makes me feel a lot better about the way I dress.  What can I say?  I’m lazy.

Here’s a brand new music video from Gabriel Teodros and Amos Miller’s growing side project, Air 2 A Bird. The project started when Teodros was denied entry into London last year, had his global tour canceled and was deported to New York. Instead of sitting around twiddling his thumbs, Teodros and brother Amos linked up for two weeks in New York and began crafting the songs for the incredible Air 2 A Bird album, Crow Hill.

As of yesterday, they finished their first music video and it’s not bad. I’m not familiar with the video directors but they do a good job of capturing Amos and Gabe’s zany personalities. Check it out.

Dear Tanlines:

You’re lucky that I’m in a good mood. It’s Friday and I’m keen to share good music with the LxNxM readers who keep coming to our site faithfully (thanks all 19 of you!). As I dig for new goodies, I notice you’ve just released a European only project entitled Volume On. Fellas: It’s almost 2011! Who in the hell makes European only releases anymore when music is so global now-a-days? Even if you release an album in Papua New Guinea, it sure as hell won’t stay in Papua New Guinea. It’s on the web, and then it’s worldwide. Faster than you can say Soundcloud.

But yeah, back to you Tanlines. Your new project, aimed at the riki-tiki Europhiles, actually isn’t bad at all. It’s solid like three day old shit. Dance-y tracks, xylophonic beats, and enough sonic exploration that it’s worth sharing w/ the masses. You were “clever” enough not to have an embed link on your Soundcloud page, but clearly, you want the world to hear it. And they should. Since I’m in a nice mood, I’ll give ya an assist. Even though you’re two New York (read: Williamsburg) art-rock hipsters who I probably wouldn’t want to meet in person.

Sincerely — Reality Mr. Wordlush
