for the record, donald trump is a scumbag. see also: tyler, the creator on jimmy fallon last night. still crazy that the roots are on tv every night backing up all kinds of artists.
This play on words is so needed right now for all of the young bucks that like to throw the word “ratchet” around too much. Leave it to part-time Detroiter/part time Bay Area emcee and producer Quelle Chris to be creative enough to come out with this video.
Favorite line: “All-Star Weekend no dough–rat shit/Ya kids 25 you 24– rat shit.”
this song is great. for more murlo, click here.
awesome picture taker/LA DJ-producer total freedom recently said his cache of free downloads courtesy of his professional soundcloud account would expire on january 31st. aka tomorrow. clock’s ticking, so start here:
total freedom – “HUNTER’S TALE OR RIHANNA STALKING RIHANNA WITH A JOEY JORDISON(TM) TORCH”
total freedom – “YB VOICE SONG”
total freedom – “SLICE 4 MINIMAL COMPLAINT (ALSO CALLED: SKIP BUTTON)”
New York-based comedy rapper Heems just dropped more comedy rap with his new video for the song “Soup Boys.” The ex Das Racist member apparently wants all of us to think more about drones… and chocolate chip cookies. The video is better than the rapping but whatever. It’s good to see Heems moving forward with his music. And there’s nothing wrong with making folks think more about drones. As Heems says, “That drone cool, but I hate that drone/Chocolate chip cookie dough in a sugar cone.” Get hip.
Categorize this one under ‘caught sleeping’. Last November, Gift uh Gab – the self-proclaimed First Lady of fast-rising Seattle clique Moor Gang – dropped an album with the perfectly throwback name of Queen La’Chiefah.
Gift uh Gab (yeah, sounds a lot like that one guy) brings serious heat, both as an emcee and holding down the vocals on the hooks. Throw in guest appearance by fellow Moor Ganger Jarv Dee, Coolio Da’Unda’Dog, and Sam Lachow, and you’ve got a deep team on the album.
This is my first introduction to Gift, and it’s a banger. Definitely looking forward to hearing more.
SF rapper A-1 just dropped a hip-hop/sci-fi’ed out new video for his song, “The Ritual.” In a respectful way, yes the tune samples part of its hook from the Little Dragon song “Ritual Union.” But shit, that’s a damn good song to sample if you can get away with it. Beyond that, “The Ritual” is an honest, straight forward West Coast track full of Bay Area slang and is essentially the lead single off of A-1′s new mixtape, The Thurl Tape. And is Thurl just a truncated way of saying “thorough” in San Francisco? Yes it is.
New year, new sounds – on Thursday, Soundsystem’s bringing the temperature up a few degrees at Moe Bar. We’ll be kicking off 2013 with a set from none other than Sabzi, of Blue Scholars/Townfolk/Phở fame. As always, it’s family – see you there!

VP Records has been putting out their double volume compilation, Strictly The Best, since 1990. That’s a long time for a compilation series. I’ve been a fan of the series as far back as I can remember listening to reggae, but this is the first time I’ve seen VP promote it with accompanying mixes. No complaints here. Volume 46 is all lover’s rock and roots and 47 is dancehall. Walshy Fire must be a very busy man.
