Archive for the ‘ab-soul’ tag

top dawg entertainment dropped new tracks from LA’s black hippy crew over the past week as part of #TDEFamAppreciationWeek. consider us gratified. all these tracks are pretty great, but the kendrick lamar cut really takes the cake.

kendrick lamar, ft. young jeezy – “westside, right on time”

schoolboy q – “party”

ab-soul – “nibiru”

jay rock – “YOLA”

As the title suggests, ”Terrorist Threats” is an angry song.  The indignant and at times violent lyrics over the smoothed out beat makes it an especially haunting track.  It makes me feel like I’m watching a slow motion fight montage in a movie about a Tea Party envisioned apocalypse where the Crips and Bloods combine forces and rise up from the urban slums to fight the military for ultimate supremacy and ultimately take over and kill all the politicians.  The movie stars Ab-Soul and Danny Brown.  Kinda cool, right?

Ab-Soul is an affiliate of the Black Hippy crew out of L.A., which also features Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, and Jay Rock.  Dave Free, who also produced this earlier Black Hippy banger, is to thank for the filthy beat.  Jhene Aiko, another gifted Los Angelina, can be heard doing her thing on the intro hook.
