When it comes to music, quality is a must. Without taste and skill, it’s just noise. And then there’s quantity. Quantity doesn’t hurt, provided it stays good. Connect high quality plus a huge quantity? Now you’re talking.

Which brings us to DJ Chorizo Funk, Austin’s bboy floor-rocker extraordinaire and official LxNxM homie. Like a well-oiled machine, Chorizo Funk keeps pumping out his Chorizo Chunks series, following different themes and styles down the rabbit hole, and into his very own Milwaukee (which, as Alice Cooper pointed out to us, is Algonquin for “the good place).

Wayne’s World references aside, Chorizo’s latest mix – the tenth(!) in the series – is a most excellent 50-minute journey into Afro-Latin jams. Quality through and through, and the live mix shows and proves. Chorizo!

I’ve always loved New Orleans bounce. For one, there’s no such thing as a down track, if you’re not upbeat, you’re not making bounce. Secondly, it’s amazing to see the variety of sounds that have spun up, out and around from the Triggerman sample from the Showboys’ “Drag Rap.” As a slight digression, it’s one of only a handful of universal riddims that mainstream hip hop has produced.

But enough about that, Austin gentleman DJ Orion just dropped I-10, an all-NOLA mixtape that recalls more house parties than I care to remember. In the good way. Enjoy it, and raise a glass to one of the best towns in the USA.

Que pasa?  here is another choice mix from the homie Dj Chorizo Funk, posted up a few days back – an “all vinyl” mix recorded live at Body Rock in Austin, Tejas.  For our seattle based folk- Chorizo will be en la cocina tonight at the dj100proof / DJ Sean Cee / DJ Darwin Birthday Bash! @ Nectar, FREE SHOW! Buen provecho.

Our dude down in Austin, DJ Chorizo Funk, just sent us a new installment of Chorizo Chunks, his estimable mixtape series. Praxis first got hipped to Chorizo Funk prior to a trip down to ATX, and now with SXSW looming around the corner, it only seems right to put one of Austin’s own squarely front and center.

The mix has tracks from Ray Barretto, Horace Andy, Barrington Levy, Johnny Osbourne, Ann Peebles, Erykah Badu, Sabo & Cassady, Top Cat, Lewis CanCut, Roberto Roena, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Calle 13, Chancha Vía Circuito, and more.

Although a brother is currently tryin on a vegetarian steez, as a joven I could put a hurtin on some Chorizo. Why? Chorizo, like hip hop – is all about the ill spice and flavor, and putting the throw-away parts together with some essence. Word to my abuela. My lady, a pura East-Austin Chicana, a has been tryin to put me onto Dj Chorizo Funk for a minute. I’ll be jumpin a plane in about 3 hours to the ATX so I figured I would leave y’all with this parting gift.

A friend of the noted Table Manners Crew, Dj Chorizo has put together a recipe capturing some wholesome indie-hop selections from 2009. This mezcla is simply solid. I am definitely feelin the nacho- libre esque Dj Chooorrriiiizzzzzo drops in between mixes. Enjoy people, I’ll see what other treats I can sniff out in Austin for y’all….
