Archive for the ‘big boi’ tag

it’s been a minute since we’ve posted something from big boi. today brings a video for perhaps the most soulful cut on sir lucious left foot: the son of chico dusty, “be still.” big boi is probably the most consistent rapper out there, but man are his videos inconsistent. ranging from totally boring to really great, this one is right in the middle. it almost doesn’t make sense: why are there daddy fat saxxx cheerleaders for a song this chill?

Speaking of remixes, here’s another dope remix album that’s been making its way around the webs.  Masterfully blended by Wick-It The Instigator, these tracks might make you think that this is an actual Big Boi and The Black Keys studio album.  But it’s not, which might make it even cooler – this is straight from the DJ’s imagination.

The Brothers of Chico Dusty (Big Boi vs. The Black Keys) by wick-it

The damn name says it all. Foreign Beggars, one of my favorite UK production/disque jockey crews, just dropped a new mix of that neck breaking type of beats, etc. The name: Barfcast. The music, everything from that new Big Boi to 40 water to French baby making/fight starting music-maker Onra.

Because Mixcloud doesn’t love WordPress, you have to leave this here blog to get the mix, and you should. GET IT.

y’all can head over to big boi’s myspace page and stream his long-awaited sir lucious left foot record, which will be officially released in record stores next week. if you’re a nostalgist, you should also click here for a nice, long remembrance of outkast’s aquemini, which turned 12 a couple weeks ago. finally, watch this video of the newest dance craze not sweeping the nation: country hip hop line dancing! featuring neither country nor hip hop music!

a couple tracks dropped into the blogosphere for your consideration today. both feature HUGE strings. first up is the second official track off big boi’s upcoming album, sir lucious left foot: the son of chico dusty. “general patton” definitely has a martial air to it, but is probably the least radio-ready of what’s leaked from sir lucious left foot. (as an aside, this record is hella interesting to me, not least because it’s been pushed back infinity times already. here’s a blog post from last february that mentions “general patton” and 17 already completed track for sir lucious left foot.) it’s still a pretty bangin’ track though, and you should stick around for the david blaine joke at the end. zing!

next up is a track by rising dancehall star 77klash that premiered over on the FADER site earlier today called “shadow of death.” i’ve been feeling this dude’s stuff since his guest verse on jahdan blakkamore’s “dem nuh like it.” quoth the FADER: “this may be the first time we’ve ever felt like a string section was going to punch us in the face.” indeed.

EDIT: of course, another big boi track surfaced last night, this one from dude himself because apparently jive records won’t let andre 3000 appear on the record. wow, that is dick. track is called “looking for ya,” and features 3000 and sleepy brown.

finally, a big boi video that isn’t totally boring or totally random! “shutterbug” is the lead single (produced by scott storch – wtf ever happened to that guy? oh, this.) off sir luscious left foot: the son of chico dusty, currently slated for a july 6 release date.

this track – “shutterbugg” – is supposedly the first official single off big boi’s long-awaited record sir luscious leftfoot: the son of chico dusty, which is currently slated to drop on may 4th (the safe bet is on this being a total lie). this brings the total to four bangin’ tracks that are on this record. lots of the blog posts i’ve seen about this news feature excited talk about how the record includes three collaborations between big boi and andre 3000 (a.k.a. outkast). i’m also still waiting to hear how the distant relatives album will also be delayed again.
