Archive for the ‘black chiney’ tag
It’s been awhile since we last posted a fresh mix from one of our favorite dancehall DJs, Walshy Fire. The Miami-based bashment king and core member of Black Chiney Sound just dropped a new mix this week full of choice cuts and pum pum jams that should more than satisfy fans of up to the moment dancehall selections. This isn’t the type of headline grabbing dancehall meant to highlight fueds between Vybz Kartel and the next man. That’s for bullshit DJs anyway. Walshy keeps it dance oriented throughout playing cuts from artists in the garrisons, uptown, or anywhere else as long they’re hot. Check it.
It’s always a pleasure to see the growth of my good friend Walshy Fire. Some folks just know him as a member of the Miami-based super sound system Black Chiney but he brings a lot more to the table than that. In addition to just being an all around good dude and back breaking club DJ, he puts out fire mixtapes and recently transitioned from being a pirate radio DJ to rocking a mainstream radio gig on 103.5 The Beat in South Florida. The show he hosts on Sunday evenings alongside Lady Terra is called Rockers Island (tune in via the web) and I’m tripping that he just interviewed soca king Machel Montano a week ago. Big ups to Eddie STATS Houghton for posting this over on Large Up. Check out this clip of Walshy and Montano chatting as the former soca monarch addresses rumors of him being on drugs (I missed that one!), why he skipped Carnival in Trinidad this year, and what his plans are for 2010.
You might remember a while back I posted Walshy Fire’s big mixtape of dancehall classics, Decades Vol. 1. As promised, here’s Decades Vol. 2.
Bay Area selector DJ Serg has a history of making quality mixes that encompass various parts of the reggae spectrum: culture, roots rock, dancehall, and especially lovers rock. It sort of makes me wish we had a solid reggae mixtape king here in Seattle and if anyone knows of somebody I’m overlooking, please let me know.
In the meantime, check out one of Serg’s mixes entitled Love and Affection. It’s been out for a few months now so apologies if anyone has come across it already. There are plenty of quality jams on here to rock out to on a Friday night–from Pressure’s “Love and Affection” (natch) to Jah Cure’s “Just You and Me.” My favorite might be the Black Chiney influenced version of Lil Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer.” There’s also some Tessanne Chin and Nina Sky here for those that are hip to how amazing their music is plus a touch of soca as well. It’s roughly an hour long and has solid vibes all the way through.
Check it out at this link and love up on somebody tonight if you can. It’s getting cold out there and music like this is meant to bring people together for the purpose of warmth. Go and get some.
Comin straight up out the gully side, Mavado and Walshy Fire have blessed the internet with this mix. Black Chiney, the baddest sound in Florida by far, always comes correct (peep this post and this post for some more fire from the Black Chiney massive).

After four years, Walshy Fire is leavin Mixx 96. This podcast is the last official mix he’s doing for Mixx 96. He’s going to 103.5 The Beat, where Walshy and his co host, Lady Terra, will host a weekly show on Sundays called “The Rockers Island Show.” If you’re in SoFla, you should listen to his show tomorrow night and then hit up the after party at Opium Hard Rock in Hollywood.
More fire from Walshy Fire. Big up Black Chiney sound!!! (Airhorn!)

This is a big, big mixtape. 97 classic tracks. If you don’t think you need this, you are wrong. Download it already!
“the year to year cd!” From the cd starts the fire starts blazing. Fire pon a weak heart reggae dancehall lover on this one.The first Major flame is the Beres Hammond “Till You’ve got love”….bassline like how dancehall suppose to be.
After that it goes into the Everybody Bawling riddim mixed with a Beenie
Man that the entire world is use to on a completey different riddim in its
original style…the same riddim as barrington levys “murderer”.
Mixed after is dancehall icon Nitty Gritty, but its the next big fireball.. Malibu “My friends” performed live on stage shows a million times in the live entertainer days. This 45 is completely hard to get and for many, never heard before on wax.
Forward to the Death in the Arena riddim for my new yorkers then over to the “Kuff”, “Devil Send You Come” riddim. Little Kirk burns a massive fire with “Suffer not the little ones” (sorry about the quality of it, but i had to put it on for di original Little Kirk fans) mixed in with the “Fresh” riddim di ting get mad!
But truss me, the undisputed biggest track on this cd is track #45! IT NUH GET NO BIGGA! Di original Murder she wrote 1988 on the Fresh Riddim. I’ve had more people ask me for this song then any song i have ever had…period! Pliers wasnt even using the name Pliers at the time. Forward to the “Mud up” riddim and then into the 2000s with “Wanted” riddim.
Truss me di cd Mad! year to year, more like month to month imma drop a new volume, not for anyone but us, the people that love to hear those classic dancehall oldies!
