what’s up scion? are you trying to convince me to buy a car or something? after releasing dam-funk’s easy-on-the-ears ep innafocuseddaze last week (it took me a day to realize it was free), scion is offering up, along with adult swim, {UNCLASSIFIED}, a collection of 18 rare and/or unreleased tracks from the leading lights of electronic music (kode9, burial, ikonika, starkey). for free. that’s 140 MBs! one hell of a business model you’ve got going there. stream two of the standouts below, head here to stream the rest, and go here for the music.

dâm-funk made an awesome mixtape (tracklist after the jump) for clothing company oki-ni and i try to always post awesome mixtapes made by dâm-funk, so here we are. take it away, dâm: “All songs were taken from the original wax pressings. This mix is what I simply listen 2 on any given day, while living life. It’s a pleasure to share these tracks with my new oki-ni friends. I own all of these records. No mp3s or computer files were used for this mix. No fake shit or fads; just the truth.”
HVW8 for the win!

i’m really looking forward to the dam-funk show happening just two days from now tomorrow at nectar lounge in fremont (get tickets here). at the same time, i have no idea what to expect. stones throw’s page tells me it’ll be a “solo-live x dj set.” with someone as prolific as dam-funk (hello quintuple debut album. this is still my favorite.), a night of dude’s tracks would be well worth the price of admission. but i’d also be hella stoked if it’s just dam-funk playing modern funk and boogie cuts for a couple hours. i’ve had a soft spot in my heart for his mixtapes ever since that clae footwear beautiful music 4 beautiful people mix he put out more than a year ago, and which i still rock on the regular. i was really hoping another one might make it’s way on the internet this week (this had my hopes up) and make this post a little more newsworthy, but no dice. instead i’ll just put up this heater of a mix DF did awhile back for the folks over at lucky me. it is straight fire and well worth having partly because “all music was recorded via the ‘original wax’ recordings. no mp3′s or re-issues were used whatsoever.” the tracklist is after the jump, and if you’re in seattle this friday, get yourself to nectar.

the stones throw twitter feed has been kind to me today, so i figured i’d share with the rest of you too. yesterday, they shared the super great madlib remix of j dilla’s “the $”. stream and download that below. then, just 20 minutes ago, they tweetered out about a new/unreleased dam-funk track, “beautiful creep”. i clicked over, and even better than the track, i saw that dam-funk will be playing here in seattle at nectar lounge in fremont on december 10th. this event is put on by the homies at reign city and members only, tickets are only $12, and i’ll see you there.

decibel fest is happening (and has been happening already) this week and weekend in seattle. tons of good stuff, so head on over to the decibel fest site and see what you’ve been/could be missing. of special note is the mary anne hobbs dj set on sunday at the broad street stage (beer garden too!). sadly, she just ended her BBC show. of course, she got a burial and kode9 going away mix for her troubles. she’s also featured crazy great mixes from the likes of joker and dam-funk in the last several shows, which you can stream/download below. i’m not sure why she hung it up, but it’s sad regardless. check her out this sunday, if you’ve got $10 in your pocket.

dam-funk: the future sound of modern funk mix – download
i would love to spend a day kicking it with dam-funk in LA. check this official video for the vocal version of the funkmaster’s classic “hood pass intact.”
relatedly: D-F is one of the few artists whose youthful stylings i’d be interested in checking out. thanks to stones throw, now i can.
Daaaaang… it’s the last day of summer, y’all! Glad the sun came out to show some love today here in Seatown. But still, if you’re at all like me, you probably wouldn’t mind a little more warmth in the days to come. So, here’s Fatima‘s recently released video for “Warm Eyes,” from her March 2010 EP on Eglo Records, Mind Travellin’. This song has that warm, mellowed-out, last days of summer kinda feel, and its produced by noneother than the funkiest gangster in all of Los Angeles, Dam-Funk. Enjoy, amigos.
For real, girl! How you gon play D-F like that? I doubt that busta’s perm is as fly or as gangsta as Dam’s. And I know he doesn’t give you free downloads of that raw uncut funk like he does…
Dam-Funk’s free unmastered mp3 download series continues. In my opinion, this is the best track from the series so far. The title/hook is pretty catchy too.
