Here is a spooky banger from Copenhagen based one man show, CHLLNGR, a.k.a. Steve Borth. Some experimental dub leaves me feeling like I’m lost in an underground reggae cavern. CHLLNGR beats are driven smartly by crispy claps and pulsing bass, the synths on “Ask For” funk hard – reminiscent of MC breed’s ’91′G anthem “No Future in Yo’ Frontin.“ Look out for the CHLLNGR full length HAVEN set to drop on Green Owl this July.  Also see the ear-gems below. I remember gushing to local beat savant WD40 about how dope the first Beat Dimensions compilation was:  full of delightfully weird cuts with that Spacey off-beat swing, crackin crispy drums, and warm warbly bass.  A couple weeks back the homie hit me with the news that a Beat Dimensions 2 (compiled by Cinaman and Jay Scarlett) was coming out. I took the late bus – but managed to give it a listen tonight – i say thumbs up good sir/madam. Jahtari (Jah + Atari = Jahtari) was created by Jan Gleichmar (a.k.a. Disrupt).  He describes their music as “for the lack of a better term – digital laptop reggae.”  They are a sound system and also a netlabel.  Disrupt and Jahtari call Leipzig, Germany home.  They’re down with the Mungo’s HiFi cats from Scotland.  They put on a lot of artists that I’ve never heard of.  It’s good music.  Peep the megapost after the jump.

This Glasgow sound system is on indie label Scotch Bonnet Records, and so are most of the other artists featured on this cd.  This is a solid album through and through.  I have a feeling there’s gonna be a lot more good music coming from this label and this sound system in the future.

On sort of a side note, this whole post reminds me of that Starburst commercial with the Korean-Scottish dad and son talking about how they are “contradictions,” because they are Korean and Scottish.  That commercial is whack and the people that made it are ignorant.  Mungo’s is like the antithesis to the whackness that is that commercial (minus the Korean and plus the Jamaican).  Know what I’m sayin?
