Archive for the ‘Gameboys’ tag

Meneo are two gentlemen of Barcelona, Rigo Pex and VJ Entter, who never outgrew Gameboys. Now, for most people, that would be a big negative, with connotations of awkward social manners, an obsessive dedication to arcane video game lore, and, to paint with broad stereotypical strokes, questionable hygiene.

Luckily, Meneo are Gameboy-obsessed for all the right reasons (though that doesn’t rule out any of the above – I’ll let you know as soon as we all cross paths), namely the music and visual double punch they create from said Gameboys.

Making music with Gameboys isn’t that new, but what’s cool/eyebrow-raising about Meneo, is that the music they create with the games isn’t some Prefuse 73 blip hop, nor is it more traditional tech-heavy styles. Rather, Meneo take the organic guts out of a variety of styles and jam in the 8 bit sounds that are driving dancefloors nuts right now.

Case in point, the gents dropped a mini-mix of the music they’ve been loving, including some of their own production and running the gamut of “cumbia-electro, psycho reggaetón, minimal coolie riddims, progressive raverton, merengue dubstep, tech-mex, guaracha trance, moombathon, tropical house, covers and other blends.” That’s kind of a lot of stuff..

Check below the jump for more tracks and some videos with VJ Enttr’s visual creations.
