Fantastic. Just fantastic. The third installment in the ongoing Popular Bass series – curated and envisioned by the maestro Emeka, aka the man behind Gold Coast Trading Company – is possibly the strongest yet. Clocking in at a cozy fifteen minutes, Vol.3 features Danish producer CHLLNGR selecting tunes and setting a spare and intent tone.

The Harmattan is a dry and dusty West African trade wind. It blows south from the Sahara into the Gulf of Guinea between the end of November and the middle of March. On its passage over the desert it picks up fine dust particles which color the sky and distort the sun.

Follow CHLLNGR as he narates the journey from dessert to city to sea.

Get it while the getting’s good!

Alright, this is just dope. LxNxM homie Emeka, aka the globetrotting mastermind behind Gold Coast Trading Company (check the tropical bass-themed collab with Dutty Artz, and prepare to be blown away) has combined forces with NY-based DJ Sweater Beats to brew a bonafide mini mix.

As Emeka says, “After watching these guys work I was blown away with the amount of talent these dudes had. So I asked Antonio (Sweater Beats) to play with some of these traditional West African folk songs I had with me and this is what he did: Fourteen minutes and 44 seconds of  ’hip-hop’ funk inspired vintage African folk.”

It’s packed mix, busting with great energy from end to end. Download this business now, step up your fashion game with Gold Coast, and be a better person.

Appropriately titled “New Ish,” East London/Nigeria representer Azekel just dropped his first single and the corresponding video. I’m still not entirely certain how best to categorize this song – it moves from neo R&B right on into electro hop, and keeps a healthy dose of swaggy swing at the core of its construction.

And you know what? I like that it walks those lines with seeming abandon – it brings a fearless edge, and pulls the music into even tighter focus. As Azekel says, he’s on that new shit.

Watch the video above, and stream/download it below. Bam. Shouts to the homie Emeka at Gold Coast Trading Company for being on his good music game.
