gordon voidwell – “haus of luv”
Ah, Thanksgiving. Sure, it’s a celebration of colonialism and illegal invasion, but it’s also a day for that most important thing around you: friends, family, and the good people who make up the constellation of your life. In a convenient piece of synchronicity, NYC’s Tecla just released The THANK$GIVING Mixtape, an hour long dip into future sounds that is absolutely, crucially, a family affair.
The mixtape features guest appearances and production from the current crop of New York’s rising moguls, including those wacky Das Racist fellows, Kassa and Carlos Overall both, Lakutis, Gordon Voidwell, and Fat Tony. It’s not unreasonable to imagine some of this album coming together before, during or after a long dinner among friends.
The mix is an evolution for Tecla, building off her last release Strangers in Masks, and moving from that release’s future r&b sound into a happy combination of outre boom bap and late night bump. It’s an album that gets its priorities straight, and puts the focus on good times and good people. If only there were some gravy to pout on top…
It appears we’ve forgotten something. Tecla, she of the future-retro chanteuse sound, Gordon Voidwell collaborating, and Das Racist tour partnering, put out an album a little while back entitled Strangers In Masks. It was a good ass album. I listened to it and dug it. And I could have sworn this respectable publication had written some kind words to that extent. We did not. We are dummies.
Luckily, we get a second chance – Tecla just dropped an all-remix version release: Strangers Revisited, with refixes from LxNxM favorites Old Money Massive, Dash Speaks, and Kassa Overall, among others. Clocking in at 15 tracks, and skittering stylewise between future club, future hop, and future bass. Lots o’ futures, apparently.
Good shit, get it! And just for good measure, you can grab Strangers In Masks below the jump. BECAUSE WE DO IT FOR THE KIDS IS WHY.

Gordon Voidwell is that dude. Last time we saw him and his eponymous band (consisting of superstars-in-their-own-right Tecla Esposito, Guillermo Brown and Townfolk Kassa Overall), he went from two back to back performances in front of sell-out crowds to guest djing the LxNxM afterparty – and yes, he slayed.
Now dude and crew are back with a nicely throwbacked video that highlights the style and substance that G Void is known for. Enjoy!
Das Racist wins, naturally.
Just came across some footage from the Das Racist fellas’ afterhours show in Seattle a few weeks back, courtesy of Sportn’ Life mastermind DeVon Manier. Good times!
Yes, yes it is. We’ll see you there.
Who doesn’t love an afterparty? Good times. Remember: Team Das Racist tonight at Members Only, and File Jerks, WD4D, Tang & Toast, Gordon Voidwell and special guests tomorrow at Moe Bar. Lock in!
We’re pulling back the curtain on special guest number one for The Hella Official Double Feature Afterparty this Sunday at Moe Bar. The guest? The one and only Gordon Voidwell, New York’s very own Prince/George Clinton/future hop blogstar.
G. Voidwell will be holding down a very special DJ set at Moe Bar, his first on the West Coast (as far as we’re aware), and a rare Bronx/Brooklyn/Space treat for Seattle.
If you’re not familiar, dude is official, and it’s a rare treat to have him blessing the room. Wax Poetics, that arbiter of good musical taste, gave him gushing coverage, and he’s been wasting no time blowing up little places like SXSW.
Bottom line, you want to be there. Here’s some downloads to give you a taste and get you ready.
