Damn. Makes me want to go hang out in desert, or at least the LA area, something wicked. Hawthorne Headhunters make music for sunglasses and warm breezes. Get here, summer!
HVW8 for the win!
It may not be politic to say it, but I have to get this off my chest: I have a complete and total crush on HVW8 Productions. Phew. That feels good to say out loud. We’ve given HVW8 love over the last year, and it’s for good reason: beyond running one of LA’s illest gallery spaces, pumping out clothing collabos with folks like Parra, they put out good music from folks like the Hawthorne Headhunters and maintain a top-notch podcast series.
The latest podcast features the stylings of Detroit/LA ur-DJ House Shoes, a man who fears no mix, and is liable to drop whatever the hell he feels like (check his interview with LxNxM’s Wordlush). Shoe was in town recently for the inaugural installment of the Enjoy series from the Members Only team, and he lived up to expectations. If you weren’t there, shame on ya, but enjoy this podcast as recompense.
Tracklist after the jump.
Via the homie Black Mal P, here’s live footage from L.A.’s Sunday stalwart, the Do Over, of Dam Funk’s remix of “I Should Tell Ya Momma On You”. Good times, and the sunny Sunday situation should make anyone’s gray Thursday pass a tad quicker.
Previous HVW8 lovage right hurr…
Two of LxNxM’s favorite artists/subjects, funk demigod Dam Funk and grown and sexy collective Hawthorne Headhunters, teamed up last summer to grant us some musical beauty. The song is called PCH, and the vibe is exactly what you would hope for – synths that get chunky just before the smooth hits, and snares that make your neck do that snapping thing.
Anyhoo, it’s not brand new new, but it’s still filthy. Get ‘er.
In-studio video below the jump. Damn.
Some music is just plain dirty. And the music made by Los Angelinos the Hawthorne Headhunters fits squarely, heavily, filthily under that category. I could talk about the whole crew all day, but I want to get into some more specifics around one member of the crew, Proh Mic. Proh’s an old Seattle head who migrated down the coast some years ago. I came across Hawthorne Headhunters before I knew he was involved, and when I found that out, well damn, that just about made my day. Apparently the sun’s treating dude right, because he has blossomed into something beastly in the music department.
In addition to his HH production, Proh Mic’s dropping free monthly mixtapes off his myspace, Volume 5 of which has been on repeat all day. You should download that right now, and I’ve thrown up the link for the Hawthorne Headhunters’ podcast for the HVW8 crew. Get that ish now, it’s for real.
