Archive for the ‘jahdan blakkamoore’ tag

Word on the streets (and by streets I really mean blogs) is that Jahdan Blakkamoore is putting the finishing touches on his upcoming album, Babylon Nightmare.  No release date has been announced yet, but while we anxiously await the return of our favorite genrebending, Guyanese-Brooklynite singjay we have the Global Warning! podcast/mixtape to hold us down.

This mix was put together by Digital Ancient for Lustre Kings, the record label behind Turbulence, Lutan Fyah, and now Jahdan, as a little preview of what’s to come on the LP.  After only a couple of rotations, I’m ready to for some full-length tracks – especially the Eek-A-Mouse sampling, “Down in the Ghetto.”

Peep the tracklist and a little BTS video after the jump.  Happy Solstice, suckas!

Love the song “General” by Brooklyn/Guyana maestro Jahdan Blakkamoore (and yes, we’ve dumped praise on him before), and just came across the couple-of-weeks-old video for the song. BK standing strong!

What to say about the dude Maga Bo? Let’s see. Dude is an adoptive Carioca – born and raised in Seattle, he now resides in Rio de Janeiro. And on top of that he’s a legit global traveller/appreciator. His new mixtape, Outras Terras, counts collaborators from all across the map.

The mix, with all production byMaga Maga Maga Bo, has folks repping Brooklyn (Jahdan Blakkamoore), Barcelona/Seattle (Filastine), Caracas (Pacheko), Cape Town (Teba), Dakar (Xuman) and many many more. There’s some globablism for you.

It’s fast-paced, and at just under forty minutes it reaches across the spectrum of genres. If the collaborators alone don’t convince you, check out the full track listing below the jump. Get it!

Jahdan has been around for a while now, but just recently seems to be getting a lot more shine after appearing on Major Lazer’s track Cash Flow.  I was initially introduced to him back in 1999, through Smif N Wessun’s second album, The Rude Awakening.  He did a verse on the opening track, Off the Wall, that didn’t really stand out.   But then the 1999 compilation, Duck Down Presents, came out, and I was all about Jahdan.  He had my favorite track on the album, the only straight up reggae song, titled Raiders of the Arc.  Defintiely worth a listen.
