DJ Chilly’s El Sonido is definitely one of the dopest shows on KEXP.  Every Monday from 6 to 9PM, Chilly selects the choicest tunes from all over Latin America and the rest of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world, spanning genres, generations and cultures like it’s no thing.  It’s a guaranteed three hour fiesta for your earholes.  So, when Chilly asked me and Toast to come on as guests and do a 30 minute live DJ set, we couldn’t refuse.

It’s our first live radio gig, so please excuse the roughness around the edges. We’re still proud of our little mix, though.  Hope you like it.  Shouts out to Chilly!

Okay, so we’re reeeally looking forward to this one. On September 13th, Zuzuka Poderosa, Brasileira via New York,  carioca diva, and all-around bass enthusiast, is touching down in Seattle at the Nectar Lounge.

Last Night’s Mixtape is proud to be part of the team helping put on the show (along with the homies Out For Stardom, Conrazon and Chilly), and our regular Soundsystem team Tang & Toast will be holding down the dancefloor, along with Darwin and DJ Chaach.

We’ve written about Zuzuka before – her take on the carioca bass sound is unique and (dare we say?) unstoppable. It really is a a simple equation: a badass performer with heavy heavy baile beats. If Charlie Sheen were still a meme, we would term that to be #winning.

It’s a rare opportunity to have one of the world’s finest purveyors of bass dropping in on your doorstep, and word on the street is her live shows kill/crush/destroy in all the right ways – her swing through Cali was a) sold out, and b) reportedly “mayhem.”

You want to be at Nectar on September 13th. It’s Brazil on your goddamn porch. You know you want it. Get your tickets now while you still can, and we’ll see you there.

Huge thanks and big ups to everyone who came out to Moe Bar and helped us kick off the first ever installment of Soundsystem. Good times were had, and the dance floor was packed all night. The bartenders were working their asses off getting you everything you needed, and I’m hoping everyone tipped – they earned it.

But words only go so far, and a picture is worth a thousand of them. Check the photos below (with a bunch more after the jump) to see what all went down. And keep your ears peeled for more Soundsystem news and future get-downs coming up.

Thanks again – you all made it happen by making the place crack on Friday!

Tons more after the jump.

hey seattle! i don’t know if you have plans on friday night (that’s THIS friday – friday the 13th even), but what you should be doing is coming out to the inaugural night of SOUNDSYSTEM, an evening of fun times and bomb music put on by we here at Last Night’s Mixtape.

it’s fixin’ to be a grand old time: for starters, it’s FREE. also, we’ll have DJs (and bloggers!) Tang and Toast on the decks playing pretty much everything you love to find here on LxNxM, and everything we never get around to posting.

so, come out on FRIDAY, MAY 13th to MOE BAR starting at 9pm, for SOUNDSYSTEM, the first of what we hope becomes a regular night of crazy awesomeness. bring your friends, shake your ass, and we’ll see you there.

This one goes out to all our good people in Seattle: the team here at Last Night’s Mixtape is excited to announce the first installment of Soundsystem, our new night at Moe Bar.

This Friday the 13th (auspicious, no?), we’re turning Moe Bar into a family affair. And by “family affair” I – naturally – mean “LNM massive,” with Tang and Toast on the decks, Praxis and Wordlush hosting and toasting, and Krieg kissing babies (elect the man already, eh?).

We’re looking forward to having a regular showcase of the very best of the music you get here on Last Night’s Mixtape, (along with a healthy dose of the stuff we love too much to let out into the wilds of the internet), as well as a platform to put on some of the homies from around the country and the world whose music and skills are giving today’s music its tick.

And because we love ya, the night is free – you just show up looking proper, ready to move yourself right, and we’ll provide the bass and inspiration. Not a bad deal.

Details below – as always feel free to hit us up with questions, comments, free music via Twitter (@lstnghtsmxtp) or via “electronic mail” – lastnightsmixtape(at)gmail(dot)com. WORD.

I came across this joint almost a month ago, and it definitely left an impression. The synth heavy, haunting effects and palpitating bass- come courtesy of producers Musiq Korner. The triumph in Nipsey’s grown-man prose is supported well by June Summers‘ soulful hooks, and I feel something in the music that makes the difference between a good rapper and a great emcee – heart.

The song adds a new dimension to the hood-hop hydraulic sound and rhymes that dominate most of Nipseys mixtapes, convincing me that this South Central LA ambassador is an artist that might be marathon material, as opposed to the sprint characterized by most mixtape phenoms.

Download Nipsey’s recently released (Dec.21st) and quite crackin mixtape Marathon here.

Not sure if you’ve recovered from the epic Das Racist x Mash Hall x Militant Child x Toast & Tang show on Friday, but regardless, coming down to Moe Bar tonight for The Red Eye should help. Resident Red Eye DJs the Filejerks (big shouts to Astronomar and Shorthand) will be playing only the choicest of cuts along with LxNxM’s own Toast and Tang (that’s me).  If you read our blog and you like the tunes we put up on here, you’ll definitely appreciate the vibe at Red Eye tonight.  Drink specials, good music, good people – Sunday nights don’t get much better than that.  See you there.  Bring a friend or eight.
