New year, new sounds – on Thursday, Soundsystem’s bringing the temperature up a few degrees at Moe Bar. We’ll be kicking off 2013 with a set from none other than Sabzi, of Blue Scholars/Townfolk/Phở fame. As always, it’s family – see you there!

I know, I know. We’ve been absent bloggers. Sorry about that. Do you miss us? Don’t worry. Last Night’s Mixtape is still alive and well. We’ve just been on a little vacation. We’ll be back in full swing with the blog posts shortly. Promise. For now,we invite those of you in Seattle to our monthly party, Soundsystem, this Thursday night at Moe Bar.

Yes, it’s going to be colder than a polar bear’s toenail this Thursday. But that’s no excuse, party people. It’s the holidays, the last night before winter officially hits, and possibly the last night before the end of the world. Either way, might as well go out with all your friends and dance your asses off to some dope music, right? Exactly. So, if you like good music with lots of bass in it, come celebrate with us. Whether you’re celebrating the holidays, solstice, end of the world, or you just want to party. We got you.

Come out to Moe Bar this Thursday and join your LNM family for another installment of Soundsystem, the best and possibly only dancehall/hip hop/cumbia/global bass night in Seattle.

This month, we’re featuring Seattle’s one and only Gnotes (Gnawledge Records/SEA/BOS/LA) as our guest DJ. Gnotes is a bona fide renaissance man. Not only does he produce and DJ across genres, but he also raps, plays Flamenco guitar and even played college football. He’s also a cofounder of Los Angeles’ Subsuelo, a monthly global bass party that was recently dubbed “Best Eastside club night” by the LA Weekly.

That’s right, music lovers, Seattle’s best global bass night meets LA’s best global bass night. It’s gonna be a party!

Join us for another installment of Soundsystem and keep the vibes flowing this month as we proudly present our next special guest DJ: CHAACH!!! (NYC-PDX). CHAACH!!! is the co-founder of the NYC-based music label and Baile Funk promotion team XAO PRODUCTIONS. He has worked and performed alongside such artists as Diplo (Major Lazer), Uproot Andy, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Zuzuka Poderosa, 77Klash, Max Glazer and more. This dude has been an active proponent of the global bass scene, rocking parties from coast to coast for years now. He’s just our kind of DJ!

First things first: if you weren’t at Soundsystem last night, I feel really, really bad for you. The vibes were unreal, and DJ Panamami was in official house wrecking mode. Three things that prove last night was amazing:

1) The live percussion section grew from one person to three to five over the course of the night.

2) First they pushed last call back ten minutes. Then they pushed it back ten minutes more. And then again.

3) When the lights eventually went on, the crowd kept right on dancing.

Big shout out to the one and only Panamami for bringing quality all night long, to Gnotes for holding it down on percussion, and to the many heroes on the dance floor – you know who you are. Extra special love to the one and only Carolina, who’s making the move back to Mexico City this weekend – we’ll miss you, lady. Check a few pics below, and we’ll see you next month. CHAMPION SOUND.

Tomorrow night, Moe Bar belongs to LNM! Well, not really, but we’ll be playing the music at least. Come through with your posse and get down with us. Toast and I will treat your earholes right. 10pm to close, 21+, no cover. Dance the night away. Boom.

In the immortal words of Walshy Fire, “it’s maaaaaaad.” See ya’ll at Moe Bar on Thursday.

DJ Chilly’s El Sonido is definitely one of the dopest shows on KEXP.  Every Monday from 6 to 9PM, Chilly selects the choicest tunes from all over Latin America and the rest of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world, spanning genres, generations and cultures like it’s no thing.  It’s a guaranteed three hour fiesta for your earholes.  So, when Chilly asked me and Toast to come on as guests and do a 30 minute live DJ set, we couldn’t refuse.

It’s our first live radio gig, so please excuse the roughness around the edges. We’re still proud of our little mix, though.  Hope you like it.  Shouts out to Chilly!

Okay, so we’re reeeally looking forward to this one. On September 13th, Zuzuka Poderosa, Brasileira via New York,  carioca diva, and all-around bass enthusiast, is touching down in Seattle at the Nectar Lounge.

Last Night’s Mixtape is proud to be part of the team helping put on the show (along with the homies Out For Stardom, Conrazon and Chilly), and our regular Soundsystem team Tang & Toast will be holding down the dancefloor, along with Darwin and DJ Chaach.

We’ve written about Zuzuka before – her take on the carioca bass sound is unique and (dare we say?) unstoppable. It really is a a simple equation: a badass performer with heavy heavy baile beats. If Charlie Sheen were still a meme, we would term that to be #winning.

It’s a rare opportunity to have one of the world’s finest purveyors of bass dropping in on your doorstep, and word on the street is her live shows kill/crush/destroy in all the right ways – her swing through Cali was a) sold out, and b) reportedly “mayhem.”

You want to be at Nectar on September 13th. It’s Brazil on your goddamn porch. You know you want it. Get your tickets now while you still can, and we’ll see you there.
