We live in an era where things are maxed out at every opportunity. Super size. Go big or go home. Largest oil spill in US history. Etc. Which is why the name Mr. OK stands out. OK denotes understatement, it suggests a calm confidence that doesn’t require a desparate cry for attention. And that’s why it’s such an interesting choice for a rising emcee.
Okay? Okay. Why not?
Mr. OK is indeed an emcee, originally from Haiti and now residing in Montreal. OK is a signee to the brand new label (and longtime blog) Masalacism. Dude raps in French, but over bouncy bassy tracks that push it well out of that dangerous MC Solaar territory. Throw together an as-yet-untouched sound connection (or so it would appear, though I’m sure Diplo’s all Haitian/Montreal mix will be coming out sound) and you’ve got something that is far more than simply okay.
OK’s brand new EP just dropped, and you can buy that ish right here. In the meantime, check out the lead single “Yaya,” which features LaRose, and get the free download right here.
And because it’s really a good night, here’s a recent Ghetto Palms that was totally focused on Mr. OK and Masalacism. Download it here. Pow!
