Although a brother is currently tryin on a vegetarian steez, as a joven I could put a hurtin on some Chorizo. Why? Chorizo, like hip hop – is all about the ill spice and flavor, and putting the throw-away parts together with some essence. Word to my abuela. My lady, a pura East-Austin Chicana, a has been tryin to put me onto Dj Chorizo Funk for a minute. I’ll be jumpin a plane in about 3 hours to the ATX so I figured I would leave y’all with this parting gift.
A friend of the noted Table Manners Crew, Dj Chorizo has put together a recipe capturing some wholesome indie-hop selections from 2009. This mezcla is simply solid. I am definitely feelin the nacho- libre esque Dj Chooorrriiiizzzzzo drops in between mixes. Enjoy people, I’ll see what other treats I can sniff out in Austin for y’all….
“p.s. bump this in a system with some knock! all these damn ear buds nowadayz smh…Yall are missing out on the knock” – Dj Chorizo

My dude Swervewon, a.k.a Louis, has been payin dues and catchin wreck on the 1′s and 2′s ever since relocating to the Seattle from Big Sky country- Montana. Without getting too far into detail, but to give love and props, I have to say Swerve has maneuvered through mad hardship and professional setbacks – and consistently emerges more committed to quality hip hop music and performance – all the while maintaining a generous spirit. For a hot sec he was the Dj in my old crew estrella with Taybot, I always appreciated his hustle and love for the music.
Now to this mixtape. Anyone who has seen Swerve knows he can turn a party out. The GO! machine mixtape showcases his taste and connection to the Seattle Hip Hop Scene- which, for those of you sleepin, is currently percolating like a french press in the mornintime. The buzz on this mix lasts throughout – and the track list includes some diverse MVP’s from the emerald city’s varsity squad of 09. Shouts to raindrophustla, and of course Swervewon for this dope mix.

Quebec has given birth to steezo as diverse as Celine Dion and William Shatner. In the indigenous Algonquin language Quebec means“where the river narrows”. Out of this land of coalescing waters and styles emerges Vlooper.
Hailing from the francophone Montreal city , Vlooper identifies himself and his art with the struggle/re-definition of Quebecois sovereignity, so don’t call a brother Canadian. When not grinding on the 40-hour a week hustle and or making dope music alongside comrades Kenlo and his stateside westcoast clique Homeless Royalty, Vlooper and his wife engage in community based projects such as running Ociel “ A sovereign teashop/refuge for artists of all disciplines”.
Vlooper’s music sounds like a house party wafting of sweet tobacco full of head nodding, funky, sexy revolutionary cyborgs – full of love and posted up – sharing pastiche nodes of human joy through music. Peep the mixtapes here.

Am I still okay with autotune? I guess so, this time around. Aidonia and Tarrus Riley, who we’re big fans of, up on the Go Go Club riddim. This started popping up on the webs about a month ago, so call us late or whatnot, but hey for you the people we can never do enough.

Shouts to local boy done good Ish, aka Butterfly from Digable Planets. Even amidst flying rumors and cancelled tours, it’s been a good year for him – from putting his Seattle foot down hard on Jake One’s Home to the “release” of his Shabazz Palaces work (check for that if you haven’t yet, fyi).
And now we just had the luck to come across Sounds from the 7th Dimension, a new mix of Digable Planets isht by DJ Alex J. It’s some original space fire, a mix of the Digable you know and love, plus some remixes, unreleased tracks, and re-imaginings. A good luck inside the Digable heads, and worth your time to download, bump, and enjoy.

Thanks to Potholes in my blog for linking the exclusive. Good looks.

This falls squarely under the category of “only possible with the damn internet.” Back when the Blueprint 3 was just a twinkle in Sean Carter’s eye, tracks were coming from all directions. Alex Goose got the call, kicked in tracks, and saw them soundly rejected. Tears ensued, but also dreams of what could have been. The result: Blueprint 3: the Outtakes, some serious instrumental action. Download it here, and try to imagine Young Hova over the whole thing.
H/T to yesyesyall for the eyes on the prize.
Ninjasonik – love them or hate them? Next level club bangers or run of the mill hipster hop?
And remixing Major Lazer’s “Hold the Line.”
