Archive for the ‘Philly’ tag

Hold onto your hats, it’s about to get meta. DJ Nick, a Philadelphian by way of New Jersey, just put out an absolute wrecker of a mix, featuring all tracks by Philly’s proud native son DJ Sega. Oof. Okay. DJ’s making mixes of DJs’ tracks which they also mix. My head hurts.

Luckily, there’s a cure. The mix itself.

Clocking in at just over twenty minutes, there’s no time to waste on the mix, and DJ Nick goes in without mercy. Remixes, flips and original Sega pieces all crowd in for your attention, and once the dust settles you may finding yourself wanting more.

Again, luck is with you. DJ Nick is ridiculously prolific, and over the last few months has flooded these interwebs with a veritable smorgasborg of similarly miniature mixes, covering a variety of genres. Interest picqued? It should be. Check below the jump for a couple selections.

I either jumped the gun or its very serendipitous that Shake just posted this over at 2dopeboyz at about the same time I was hitting the publish button on the previous post.  Damn it 2db, you’re always staying one step ahead of me!

Anyway.  Y’all already know how I feel about the The Roots’ Dilla tribute, and I’m tired, so I’m gonna keep it short and sweet.  Remember Dice Raw from the good ol’ Illadelph Halflife and Things Fall Apart days?  Yeah that’s him.  And he’s rapping over Dilla Joints.  It’s not the same as the first time they got together, but it’s good to hear Dice Raw rhyming with  The Roots again (sorta).

Dice, Dilla, Pregunta also features Charles P Bailey, Rick Friedrich, and Yameen Allworld.  Free download link and tracklist after the jump.

Gucci this, Gucci that, don’t block my shine, etc etc. You can’t throw a rock without hitting Gucci Mane. No really, give it a shot. See? You hit the poor dude in the head again.

To drive the point home, here’s a remix of Gucci’s Frowny Face, done up by Philly’s own blastmaster Emynd (of Crossfaded Bacon, et al), and featuring ATL rep Playboy Tre.

Do not put this song on if it’s a calm Sunday morning. Put this song on when you’re getting ready for your Saturday night.
