This classic Roots groove has been looping over and over in my head for a couple days now.  I wonder why…

Dear God 2.0” is the new single and video from The Legendary Roots Crew.  The album, How I Got Over, comes out tomorrow.  Go to your local record shop and buy that shit with real money.  Do it!

I either jumped the gun or its very serendipitous that Shake just posted this over at 2dopeboyz at about the same time I was hitting the publish button on the previous post.  Damn it 2db, you’re always staying one step ahead of me!

Anyway.  Y’all already know how I feel about the The Roots’ Dilla tribute, and I’m tired, so I’m gonna keep it short and sweet.  Remember Dice Raw from the good ol’ Illadelph Halflife and Things Fall Apart days?  Yeah that’s him.  And he’s rapping over Dilla Joints.  It’s not the same as the first time they got together, but it’s good to hear Dice Raw rhyming with  The Roots again (sorta).

Dice, Dilla, Pregunta also features Charles P Bailey, Rick Friedrich, and Yameen Allworld.  Free download link and tracklist after the jump.

I know that this came out back in February, but the blogs were too busy with Dilla tributes around that time for this album to shine properly.  I also realize that a bunch of better-known music blogs reposted this album not too long ago, so if you already downloaded this or saw this elsewhere, my bad – give a brother a late pass.  But if you’re a Dilla or Roots fan (if you’re not a fan of both, close this window and don’t ever read my posts again) and you haven’t listened to this totally free and awesome tribute album yet, you need to do yourself a favor and download this now.

14 Dilla tribute tracks performed by the Roots.  I believe this is what they mean when they say ”unfuckwithable.”

About a month ago, Tang was totally impressed with the MP3 version of Erykah Badu’s “Window Seat” track. It’s the lead single off her up coming album, …Return of the Anhk, and an amazing display of how dope James Poyser is when it comes to creating a neo-soul pop song.

A few days ago, Erykah showed up on the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon Show and performed the song with the Roots behind her. It totally makes since considering that ?uestlove co-produced the track. Two things immediately stand out after watching this video: (1)Regina King is fine! and (2) Jimmy Fallon is the luckiest TV host in late night history. He’s the unfunniest motherfucker to hold such a post in years yet blessed with such rich musical guests on a nightly basis that NBC turns a blind eye. Must be nice.

we’ve put up a couple examples of just how much better late night television is thanks to the roots crew on fallon (RIP coco!), and there are many more examples out there. this post isn’t music related (though you should revisit those links above), but a post about a post by roots drummer/leader ?uestlove explaining some of the issues they face in making the music that greets the guests as they make their way to the couch. also, check out this link that ?uestlove mentions because it’s totally worth it.

The Jimmy Fallon Show comes through with yet another bangin live performance.  This time The Roots, fully equipped with Black Thought,  collaborate with los hermanos Thornton, aka the Clipse. Cocaine rap has never sounded this sweet.

As Jimmy says at the end of the clip, “well done.”
