New year, new sounds – on Thursday, Soundsystem’s bringing the temperature up a few degrees at Moe Bar. We’ll be kicking off 2013 with a set from none other than Sabzi, of Blue Scholars/Townfolk/Phở fame. As always, it’s family – see you there!

Come out to Moe Bar this Thursday and join your LNM family for another installment of Soundsystem, the best and possibly only dancehall/hip hop/cumbia/global bass night in Seattle.
This month, we’re featuring Seattle’s one and only Gnotes (Gnawledge Records/SEA/BOS/LA) as our guest DJ. Gnotes is a bona fide renaissance man. Not only does he produce and DJ across genres, but he also raps, plays Flamenco guitar and even played college football. He’s also a cofounder of Los Angeles’ Subsuelo, a monthly global bass party that was recently dubbed “Best Eastside club night” by the LA Weekly.
That’s right, music lovers, Seattle’s best global bass night meets LA’s best global bass night. It’s gonna be a party!
DJ Chilly’s El Sonido is definitely one of the dopest shows on KEXP. Every Monday from 6 to 9PM, Chilly selects the choicest tunes from all over Latin America and the rest of the Spanish and Portuguese speaking world, spanning genres, generations and cultures like it’s no thing. It’s a guaranteed three hour fiesta for your earholes. So, when Chilly asked me and Toast to come on as guests and do a 30 minute live DJ set, we couldn’t refuse.
It’s our first live radio gig, so please excuse the roughness around the edges. We’re still proud of our little mix, though. Hope you like it. Shouts out to Chilly!
In my personal opinion, Panamanian-born yet Bay Area-raised reggaetoneros Los Rakas aren’t the most street individuals you’ll ever encounter. Still, they’ve got a brand new video out this week for their song “Kalle” that deals directly with the street life as if they’re experts. Then again, most rappers do the exact same thing and rarely get called out for it! If you’re not hip to Los Rakas yet, the duo is young, they enjoy repping their respective hoods as best as they can, and are known for making catchy jams and even catchier music videos.
We first told you about them last year back when Toast made sure readers caught wind of their sound and overall bilingual steez. He stayed on top of the crew a few times and they’ve since started touring all over the country bringing a slightly updated version of reggaeton to any audience that will listen. Check out their latest video below and for anyone that’s headed to SXSW this year (it’s almost that time folks), Los Rakas will be there as well.
Not sure if you’ve recovered from the epic Das Racist x Mash Hall x Militant Child x Toast & Tang show on Friday, but regardless, coming down to Moe Bar tonight for The Red Eye should help. Resident Red Eye DJs the Filejerks (big shouts to Astronomar and Shorthand) will be playing only the choicest of cuts along with LxNxM’s own Toast and Tang (that’s me). If you read our blog and you like the tunes we put up on here, you’ll definitely appreciate the vibe at Red Eye tonight. Drink specials, good music, good people – Sunday nights don’t get much better than that. See you there. Bring a friend or eight.

This Sunday, Last Night’s Mixtape and Red Eye are hosting a party at Moe Bar to celebrate and wrap-up a busy busy weekend. This weekend is the Blue Scholars’ Double Feature weekend, with two shows from our boys in blue, and featuring many of the folks you’ve seen written about right here on LxNxM, including Das Racist, Bambu, Macklemore and your boy DV One, among others.
To send the weekend off with a bang, we’re throwing a party with some of our favorite selectors: the File Jerks, DJ WD4D, and LxNxM’s own Tang and Toast. Plus, some secret surprise guests – with so many folks in town, there’s no telling just who might get on the tables.
We’re also releasing the second installment of the LxNxM mixtape series that night, and we’ll have free physical copies for the first 50 or so people in the door.

For the Seattle peoples – Tang and I will be holding down the tables this Saturday at Osteria La Spiga on Cap Hill. It’s the first of our new monthly, Late Night at La Spiga. Yes, it’s a classy joint, but have no fear, we’ll be bringing the bass and vibes you that you’ve seen all up and down LxNxM. If you’re on the town, come through. Guaranteed goodness.
