“(We Stay) Up All Night” is the first single off Buraka Som Sistema‘s upcoming sophmore album, Komba, which drops November 8th in the US, and it’s a massive party track if I’ve ever heard one. The video is muito sexy too. If you’re offended by ass and titties, you might wanna skip the video and go straight for the stream over at p4k.

Munich’s masters of bass have just released a four-track EP that combines the relatively obscure sounds of North Brazilian Carimbo and Nola Bounce with the more universal dancehall, calypso, cumbia and house rhythms that put Schlachthofbronx on the map. I realize that listing all those genres out like that makes it look like this project is gonna sound like a hot mess, but nothing could be further from the truth.  Every track kills. Listen to the preview below and check for yourself.

Bonus:  Hit the jump to watch the video for “Coolie Fruit,” a fresh, upbeat party track about hitting up the corner store with your crew for some juice, sweat tea and soup, featuring Sweden’s Gnucci Banana.

This a cool, slightly surprising collaboration I stumbled upon last night. Toddla T and Skream, a couple of youngbloods outta the UK, cranked out a smooth and bass-heavy riddim (good speakers, please) and managed to get the legendary singjay Wayne Marshall to speak his mind on it. Riding the bassline and using the beat as his pulpit, Marshall soulfully denounces the senseless violence, corrupt police and crooked politicians that have taken over his native Jamaica to the point that they have “become the norm.” It’s a powerful track.

What strikes me most is that the lyrics could apply just as easily to the US, considering how police brutality and impunity have increasingly become the norm throughout the country in our post-9/11 world. And with all the controversy surrounding the Troy Davis execution recently, the lyrics couldn’t reflect the current state of things in the US any clearer. “Who is to be trusted, the witness or the sarge?” I think anybody who follows the news, and most people who have heard about the Davis case are probably asking themselves the same thing.

Ironically, the album that the single is from, Watch Me Dance, came out while the London riots were going on a few weeks back, which makes the lyrics poignant on so many other levels.

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “Really, Tang? Another Frank Ocean video?” But let me stop you before you get all bent out of shape. There’s no need for all that kerfuffle. Just hit play and watch the damn video. It’s good. Although the song seems to have nothing to do with the visuals, the video itself actually has somewhat of a cohesive plot, unlike the other video that we posted earlier today, which I didn’t really get (still like the song).

There isn’t enough attention paid to the kind of electronic music that the Glitch Mob creates. On one hand, by putting their genre (glitch) in their name, the LA-based trio make everything as mentally accessible to comprehend as they possibly can. But from a creative standpoint, a lot of people still don’t get them and much of the music they make flies over people’s heads.

Such is life.

I’ve been digging the dudes for awhile and can’t wait to dive into their brand new EP, We Can Make the World Stop, which was just released. Their eponymous new single is full of interesting visuals that come off as cheesy at first, but grow on you rapidly until you’re waiting to find out what happens next. Really want to know? Keep listening.

P.S. Big ups to Dugan O’Neal for creating such a visually lush music video.

Big Freedia’s back with another equal opportunity azz-shaking extravaganza of a music video. Taken from a collaborative project she did with Scion A/V about four months ago, the track “Excuse” is about as high energy and bouncy is it gets, and the visuals do not disappoint. After watching this, I wouldn’t be surprised if real bounce classes started popping up at community centers and gyms all over the U.S. I mean, seriously, bouncing like that is about as aerobic as excercise gets. Just don’t forget the #1 rule of bounce class: Stretch First!

I don’t know how this free Big Freedia EP managed to stay off our radar here at LNM, but I hope that you can forgive us and accept this late gift for what it is: awesome. Download “Excuse,” or the entire Scion A/V Presents EP below. (My personal fave is the cut “Almost Famous,” where Freedia shouts out all her haters and even gets a little lyrical on em.)

Artsy fartsy rapper Theophilus London comes with the animated craziness for his new single, “Girls Girls $,” a song about “everything hyped weather good or bad.” TL’s major label debut, Timez Are Weird These Days, is available online and in stores 7/19.

On a side note, I really enjoy the still shot above. “Chinese Hispanic Grocery.” That’s me.
